Why do it? Do you see D.H.L. T.N.T. and other competitors in private cars? No. Why not? Beacause it dont look good for the customer, It costs too much to insure and it pays to advertise. So why do the D.O.Ms let it happen??? Simple they dont give a s**t about the customer or you! Just as long as they have an empty office to report to their boss each day.So i say shop the pratts that use cars to local press, who just love it when they find Royal Mail not looking after their readers mail. Opened a can of worms i do hope so.
Let us ask ourself's this question if someone hit your car and killed your nearest and dear'est and was not INSURED and had no M.O.T or had an OVERWEIGHT VEHICLE!. HOW WOULD YOU FEEL?. :speak to the hand

Point of interest before Christmas there was a couple wearing DHL jackets delivering from the back of an estate car stuffed with packets. Also TNT have delivered Amazon stuff to me. A young lady, no hi-vis jacket, a Mercedes car with packets clearly on view on the back seats. Seems there is one rule for RM and none for the competitors.

I am not for one minute condoning the use of cars on delivery BUT you are quite wrong to suggest that DHL/ANC/APC do not use owner drivers to deliver parcels and HDNL use their own vehicles too - though they of course are paid to do so.

It has probably part paid for the new trial cycles RM are bringing in to cope with flexibility. I have got a picture of the new Mailstar which is designed to cope with the 6 walks into 5 posties scheme:

You may have missed the point of why the Union and RMC don't like people using their cars. I personally don't mind people using them to get them to the round that's there choice and gives them a flyer. However the following points are worthy of note:

1, You need extra insurance to use your car for business use and Royal Mail insist on it but don't pay for it.
2. You wont get mileage allowance to cover wear and tear.

The 2 above reason all people are aware and its there choice. However you don't have a choice on the following.

You are not allowed to use the Car as a mobile Drop Point (Though a lot do) and you can be dismissed if you car is broken into and mail stolen. The DOMs are aware of this but turn a blind eye to it. They are therefore silently condoning an illegal practice.

Another reason I try to convince people not to use their cars is because Royal Mails biggest beef at the moment is paying people for 8 hours but they only work 7. I and other people are predicting that when flexibility hits, people who use the cars may have their rounds extended to cover the hour Royal Mail think they have lost. I don't think they have lost it after all you have worked hard to get finished early and provide a better service, but RM don't see it that way.

But the main reason why the Union don't like it is that when someone takes his 2nd bags out in his car, then the DOMs realise that the driver is not needed to take these bags out. He then adds on to the Drivers duty, or if there is enough posties using their cars then they may cut a duty altogether. Then the car breaks down or a cover postie who does not have a car is tasked for this duty and all of sudden there is no driver to take his bags, what does he do then, wait for ever for the bags to arrive ?. All walking duties should be planned for being completed without the use of cars, but when they see a chance of a saving by cutting the amount of drivers, or by extending a driver duty because posties use their cars, they will do.

All I ask people to do is think of the consequences their actions have on others. Posties using their own cars has cost jobs and this has been proven by DOs like Burslem and POSTMANS working to the rules and this caused new driving duties to be added. However, when it comes down to it I can't stop you using your car all I can do is present the counter argument, but if you consider that moaning, again there is nothing I can do.

don't think anyone would complain if you used your car on deliver if you had to be somewhere, meaning this would not be a regular occurrence, it's when they use it all the time, your giving RM a free ride, wear and tear on vehicle, petrol, your car might become a target if people see it regularly been used

One of the problems with people using cars, it shows that rounds can be done when they can't! we have a few in our DO that use cars on delivery [walks] what happens when they are off? yes that's right the poor bugger that is covering is left with no way to get out, takes longer to do the walk, gets hassle of the DIM.

When will people learn, this is not in your best interests, support the campaign, DO YOU JOB PROPERLY!

Quite apart from the fact that using cars on delivery cuts out jobs and is like turkeys voting for Christmas, what does a DOM do if he sees that a car that's being used on delivery is displaying an out-of-date tax disc ? Does he phone the DVLA ? Because if he doesn't, and someone like me knows he is therefore aiding and abetting someone in breaking the law on Royal Mail premises, should I phone the DVLA (or Royal Mail's internal security people) ??? And does the answer to that question depend on whether said car-user crossed the picket-line in the last dispute :hmmmm

The above is purely a hypothetical scenario. Possibly. :left:

TBTS,,,, I know... I would be a Rep for about 10.5 secs then i would feck the backsliders n bullshiters off and that would be the end of the branch..

I do respect Reps that deligate and get good deals with active talk and understanding... BUT Sometimes you need active in a more PRO-ACTIVE way...

More DOO and less SAY...

I feel a more Pro-active approach would of given us a Better deal in the last round of strikes....

Out.. I blame the jellyfish in HQ and the PEC.. But WE supposedly voted them in???
