Just reading this on bbc. A lot of other companies are using other couriers and are paying more for it but they all pretty much say they will probably return in the future.
Royal Mail know this. They know that Christmas is probably not salvageable now and are counting their losses knowing companies will return.
And all those that think strikes will still have an impact after Christmas are wrong. Once the festive period is over the mail and packets drop right down and at our office most walks go back to lapsing 2/3 loops because there is so little work.
The public will only be on our side for so long.

Like somebody else has mentioned, Tuesday is massive. If the board meeting passes by and nothing changes then it’s clear Royal Mail have written Christmas off this year and they be forcing through their changes regardless.

Most businesses will return. A lot of postmen probably won’t. But Royal Mail won’t care about that.

I still reckon most people/business trust RM more than other delivery companies, even now, if and when we become another herpes people will just choose the cheapest option. Why would anyone pay more for the same pants service as the doorstepping type couriers. If RM want to be another Amazon then they really will be on a level playing field, RM as a parcel company could well come a cropper.

They dont want to put up their prices to give us good terms and conditions - they want to charge the customer less than ''the competition'' whilst having us on similar terms to ''the competition''

Just read that guardian article, I quite liked this from Alex Baldock the head of Currys, no idea if it's actually true or not but.....

Baldock told the BBC programme his staff had been given a 16% pay rise over the past year, above the rate of inflation, because “we need to retain and motivate a workforce”, and that is “the price we are paying for the right talent”.

Can't imagine much chance of RM releasing such a statement

He did say this on the BBC earlier. Started by saying that pay rises were bad as they could cause a wage/inflation spiral that would end up making it worse. Then when questioned about his own staff increase said that about retaining staff and motivating them. Another hypocritical areshole company leader but the staff got a decent increase, what was not asked was if any changes to the workforce terms were part of that deal.

Indeed, but if Simon and the rest get their way we will be just another courier, no letters. On those terms why would anyone choose RM over anyone else? If I was going to post parcels on those terms I'd go cheapest

The short sighted management believe they can cut all those costs out of the business, but still deliver the same quality of service. They are completely deluded and completely underqualified for their roles! We will be another evri but more expensive!

Must have changed a lot since they were Dixons when I last worked for them! Crap wages the management hated the staff and were totally against unions! Sound familiar!

So in the same article where he says that paying out higher wages would cause "a wage-price inflationary spiral and is simply going to make things worse for everybody for longer.” he sees it okay to pay to retain the right talent if it keeps his staff happy.

My argument is the conditions that RM want me to accept more than the wage rise so therefor I am glad to hear the CWU now getting this across more and more in the media now.

Are people still talking about a wage-price spiral? Seriously, wages have been stagnant for the last decade, and prices are still going up. Maybe it's time we started talking about the real problem, the profit-price spiral. I think something like 60% of unit cost is profit, and 8% is labour. Something like 30yr ago it was the complete opposite. These figures may be off a few points, I can't remember where I saw or heard them now, to check them. They're in the ball park tho.

It might be the cynic in me, but I'm gonna go out on a limb, n say the 16% is probably the same sort of percentage as our 9%, a total that involves arithmetical acrobatics and extreme truth bending, and Curry's employees are spitting flames every time they see it written.

Edit: I think it might have been Gary Stevenson's YouTube channel, Gary's economics, I seen the figures. If you haven't heard of him, he's worth a visit.

Yes and dpd delivered my 2 tablets worth £600 on the doorstep and signed to say i had recieved them and took a photo when i wasnt even in,that will be the last time i order from currys,if this continues id expect retailers to lose a lot of business as they can't be trusted.
