You see it in football a lot. A manager goes somewhere, does crap and gets relegated and then somehow finds another club willing to pay him millions.
Same with owners. Look at Mike Ashley. Bezos. Musk. Glaziers. They do not care about the working man. It’s all about profits.
The board meeting on Tuesday is key I think. If ST doesn’t get fired or come up with a very quick deal with the CWU then that will signal to me that the board are sharing (or steering) ST plans.
How good the job they're doing is dependent on who you are, and what the job actually is. Often we're told the job is one thing, as in most cases, the reality wouldn't be tolerated, ie... Pilfer more money to wealth.
I agree shareholder meeting is a crucial point in this dispute. I'm almost certain I heard Dave Ward say it was the turning point for BT negotiations. I think I've already posted this, getting deja vu, apologies if I have.

You're right. I heard Dave Ward say exactly this during his two hour interview with Iain Dale on LBC radio on last Thursday evening.
Current PM states CWU strikes are "wrong" and that any pay increase is "unaffordable for the taxpayer". (wtf!?) Is this because our PM is ill informed or maybe a Freudian slip....(is the USO being readied for public ownership after the DK takeover?)
I may be way off base with this and I accept any scepticism.

If Royal Mail see letters/USO as a hindrance then could they pass it over for cheap just to get rid of it.....
Surely this is a risk for Royal Mail though - if letters went public - what's stopping the government adding a parcels service on top of this. Could the government build a competitive parcels business that would take market share from Thompson's Royal Mail (or whatever they rebrand to) and essentially another Royal Mail could be born.

Simon is destroying royal mail so a certain someone can increase their stake in the company. But what about the shareholders that own the other over 70% why haven't they kicked up a fuss that their investment is being destroyed?
The thing stopping the government from starting a new parcel company is cost. Why should the taxpayer foot the bill again. Royal Mail was funded from taxpayer money until profitable. GLS you could argue, was purchased with public money. We already have the most impressive network of any postal/courier service and that is what we are fighting to preserve.
If any company starts to blame the essential part of the privatised business as unaffordable, (the USO), that company should be returned to public ownership. Otherwise, what's to stop the electric companies from saying that providing electricity and maintaining the network in the UK is reducing profit, so they need a reduction to supply to 5 days instead of seven! This is exactly what RM are doing. I understand how privatisation and capitalism work, I just don't agree with it in terms of essential services.

You've just described corperate socialism, everyone just pretends it's capitalism.
When shareholders bought into royal mail they knew it had the responsibility to provide the USO. Why should everyone lose that service, because it doesn't suit the shareholders?
