Yup. People who think that continual striking will somehow lead to improved terms or even the status quo are looking more and more deluded. ST doesn’t need an agreement to bring about the changes he wants. I’m afraid the job is changing and we either accept it or move on. I’ve not worked a single strike day in the now 3 disputes we have been involved in, over the years, but I am seriously considering my options now, as sending members to London for a jolly, seems like the best tactic the union can come up with now - the sides seem further apart than ever, so what is the point?

He can bring in the changes but you can still strike under protest,it will have a detrimental effect if the company dont take the staff with them,it could be a long dispute,if you cant afford it and haven't the fight maybe its time to look for another job.

These changes are doomed to fail because Royal Mail are leaving all their staff behind .

Nobody, least of all, Thompson, will take any notice of bus loads of strikers from all over the country marching to RM headquarters.

It will be yet another futile gesture that will achieve exactly what the ridiculous votes of no confidence did last week, sweet f**k all.

Publicity , and all of it bad for Simon Thompson and Royal Mail . You can bet news crews will be there . Anyway , don't forget this isn't about change or modernisation , it's about destroying the union so management can get straight at you . For those left in the job can you imagine the bullying and intimidation with no union protection . We have to protect ourselves .

no he hasn't - a full coach probably works out at under £10 per person. What kind of strike fund does he think he's going to get paying £200/year?
As for whether we are legally protected - we are still 4 weeks away from that date - so a bit of patience is in order for all the anxious nellies

Rubbish there would of been a Strike Fund if the Union hadn’t got so bloated and throwing money at every Tom , Dick and Sally cause.
When I joined the Union the town had its own UPW Working Mens Club. Ran for the members for the members.
The DRAS strike of 1988 the Union Club put on hot meals and the Kids got a packed lunch for School.
Back then in 1986 95% of the staff where diehard union.
It wouldn’t of got this far back then it would of been a case of everyone OUT OUT.

I've had the same opinion for over a month. Changes will be carried out even if it means financial losses and /temporary/ loss of customers.

So please tell me what the solution is then if strikes aren't the answer , it seems to have worked for the BT dispute, we could work to rule ( starting on time, taking breaks,no rushing about, finishing on time etc) would that be a better alternative but from what I've seen in my office people still coming in early, taking no breaks, rushing about, so maybe not, as far as hiring coaches to bus people into London I think giving the money towards stocking up the food banks in each office would have been better, there's some people really struggling financially far more than others, so long as we have the legal protection from the union after the 23rd December strike dates we must carry on with the fight.remember this we the front line are the ones who have made this company a success not the management we all deserve better than what has been put on the table strength in numbers let's keep going forward no surrender solidarity we can win this battle

BT is different, they have a management who will negotiate, we have not. After Christmas the drop of parcels will meanThompson won't care less about us. Christmas is our time to win & it's running out & a day trip to London is not gonna help.
