A former Royal Mail manager who claims he was sacked for being too old has won compensation.
David Allen, of Leamington Hastings, a village near Daventry, told an employment tribunal he was forced out of his job when he reached his 60s.

Although postal bosses denied the claim, they offered the 62-year-old an undisclosed settlement to stop the tribunal.

Double Standards -Quite Happy to pay him up to keep him quiet -"interesting" -Whilst the RM Gestapo are quite happy to get rid off Uniform to avoid paying pensions , Dave Condliffe Senior @ Burslem is a suspicious case in point .

Happened in another Industry now privatized -Mangers stalking to get staff on Alcohol and Drugs if there was a Retirement Do , or trying to catch reps out if they had a quick pint and the Staff paper bragging about people losing their pension money .
Quite happy to pay obscene bonuses though to slash and burn -the price of everything and the value of nothing .

Other Industries CAN have better Management and DON'T end up in Tribunals , the papers or on the Internet . It's not necessarily what RM do , it's RM 's poor handling and chain of command .

Ageism is the issue here and still a problem in lots if industries, not just Royal Mail. If the employee checks out as physically up to it I see no reason why he/she cant be kept on. We're all going to have to work longer.

So he was 62? I thought they WANTED people to work till 65 because, they say, the pension fund has problems? Or is that idea only for posties and doesn't apply to managers?

You usually find that the older managers are the better managers and will stand-up to their superiors. For example, at my office I notice the older managers or the ones that have been doing the job for decades do not take any rubbish from above (they will put up a fight), whilst the younger ones do as they are told.
