I'm guessing it'll be cheapest and troublemakers first (i.e. often off sick, don't do overtime etc)
How are the "cheapest" and the ones that don't do OT considered?
Surely the cost are the deliberately slow on permanent OT costing the money?

Suppose cheapest would be those with least serveice / seniority.

Deliberately slow, yeah they'll probably go.

Point is, it's all down to management unless we force RM to strike a deal.

Manager said the VR will be on seniority and we’re set to lose 5 staff so basically equivalent of all the reserves. Not sure how this is gonna work unless we are just rotating what goes out each day. What a mess.
How bigs your office? We have around 70-80 on deliver! I wonder how many they will want to offer vr too
Think we have 18 duties plus about 5 large parcel driver duties right now.

Only 18 duties and they want to get rid of 5?.. that's mad!
Yes they are going to target 25% work force

Would you take legal minimum?

(A week's pay per year of service, up to a max of 20)

It's quite strange how Thompsons mind works. We are understaffed as it is. If he thinks he's going to replace us with people little over min wage he's got another thing coming. We are fastly approaching that rate ourselves anyway. It's amazing, how under current pay and conditions, we don't all take off in the pissing rain and snow. Make this a min wage job in the dark in undesirable weather and I think I'd find it hard not to down tools and head the hell home and get some other min wage job.

I don't think local COM's will even get a say in who goes. Why do I think that? Most are running on vacancies and struggling to get walks covered. My COM is already pulling his hair out.

If they wanted to get rid of people on the cheap, they can get rid of everyone with under two years service. This is aimed at getting rid of people with years of service on good contracts, 6 weeks leave etc, more likely to get ill.

My opinion, anyone over 60 first, then go down in age bands.

VR is normally aimed at over 60's and on seneority when an office needs to lose people.

This is now a company that wants to replace people no matter what.

Also it clearly stated non binding so couldn't victimise or favourably select you on the basis of it if another criteria such as seniority is used

It is more likely that the 10,000 FTE that he wants rid of will be done by natural wastage and a big reduction of all the temporary agency workers that we have in the business first. Its the more likely route that he will take given that we shouldn't really expect over 10,000 agency workers to be still working in March next year.

As a rough estimate,it is I'm afraid.

Could be a bit more, could be a bit less depending on age. But as a rule of thumb, that's your lot

Why bother using rule of thumb when you can do it properly?

In RM’s shoes, I would pick younger workers who have like 15+ years of service under their belts, rather than the most senior or those only employed for a short time. That is where the most money is to be saved, not on an old timer with a few more years left.

You could have a 35 year old with 30 years of service left, with 15 years done, who they know isn’t going to jack in as easily as someone who has just started.

That is where I would be looking if I were looking for the most savings.
