I'm in a office around 80-90 people , been told that agency will be delivering the large parcels from now on! If thats true I can see a good amount getting the chop. I think realistically 20% will get paid off especially if sat letters goes

When the union say 'Royal Mail want to create a gig economy', how far do they think Royal Mail will go with this. Is their plan to have owner-driver parcel deliveries, or is it to have owner-driver everything, letters and parcels?

if it's the former then posties delivering letters won't have to deal with the parcels which will make their lives easier, but they'd have to walk further. I guess 10% of rounds would disappear and be split into all other rounds.

What's the latest on the Saturday delivery axe? They asked the government this question earlier in the year and were rejected. Have they been rejected again, or is it still pending?

Reasonable to suggest that everything would settled & your exit achieved by financial year end 31st March 2023.

With the amount of casuals in DO's and the Amount of vacancies in DO's, it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if he gives it to everyone who has applied and gets them out of the door as fast as possible. It is only my opinion but they can take the hit with the redundancy pay offs this year, must be tax benefits for the company or they would just compulsory out people as and when they need them gone. For me the difference is around 11,000 between compulsory and voluntary. To be honest, if he let me go tomorrow, I would sign us for the lesser amount just to be out of there.

I recently had a conversation with a colleague who's friends with a COM in a another office, and apparently they were told those getting VR will be gone by Christmas.
Although personally I can't really see that happening, it seems too quick to me!

The difference between voluntary and compulsory is about £11k for me too.
I'd obviously prefer voluntary, but as I'm planning on going in 2023 anyway, statutory would still put me in a better position than I'd planned to be in!

We'll have to see, plenty of rumours and nonsense on here but very few facts apart from the exercise closes today, I personally hear they could start getting rid of people this week but unsubstantiated so we will just have to wait and see. Get the bag boxes back up - bigger van to drop people off and put bags in the boxes - 2 or 3 small pkts per bag!

It was lovely. Would be interesting to cost it out now like that. Ok would need more pkt deliveries but 2 bikes vs 1 van and say 1 pkt driver for 6 van share walks who also drops their bags off. With the price of vans and fuel and all acociated costs surely taking out 5 vans and replacing with 12 bikes would be more cost effective. It is nice now though that on foul weather days, you can take a spare jacket and waterproofs in the van with you.
