I've never posted here.

I've been a postman for 40 years. This job used to be something that I was proud to be part of, but thanks to the business culture in general I no longer take pride in my work. Simon Thompson doesn't see (or care) that the company is failing terribly because of how he is treating his employees. A happy workforce is a productive workforce. One way or another the company IS going to fail. Either we surrender and RM do what they want, or we fight and RM do what they want. So according to what I've read we should cut a deal. There is no deal.
So what do you want to do people, give in, roll over for the rich fat cats as we lower classes usually do? Or do we fight and take them down with us?

The current climate of racing to the bottom and having us all working for nothing has to end. People like me who remain quietly on the sidelines have to make a stand. The unions are the only ones that can speak for us and are the only ones who can encourage REAL change if we all stick together. How much of this are we going to take? I had a rich customer who just bought themselves a new Ferrari this week told me that "strikes don't work". How easy is it to say that to someone you know nothing about when you have no money worries? How easy is that to say to someone when you're not worried about whether to pay your mortgage or your gas bill this month?

People who say we should "cut a deal" are cowards in my view, I'm ashamed to say I work with some. But I also work with strong proud people who aren't ready to give in. This dispute is only the very thin end of the wedge and it's going to get wider if the rich have their way.

We need to rise up. We need to feel proud again. The working man far outnumbers the super-rich and we need to take back control. So I'm with you, we need a revolution

I call for 1381!!
Don't disagree with a word you've posted. Other than to say, people still have to earn a living in this society, not many people can exist outwith the system. So it can't just happen in isolation, there needs to be a greater movement. So we strike, and we bring the company to it's knees, then we get replaced with owner drivers, and people on worse contracts.

They still win.

How the f**k does the working class win, unless it's a greater movement.

If you allow Simple Slyman to have his way and walk rough shod all over you, there is no job anyway. I dont think a lot of people realise that this man and his fight with the union is pretty much a last stand for a lot of other unions too, he has obviously been brought in with the specific purpose of breaking the union and its support to create a workforce of dogsbodies who dont have a life. Every little glimmer of hope is always squashed out of existence at the last moment to create the most anguish and turmoil possible which in turn is making our vulnerable members waver. Not everyone is as strong or savvy to see through all of his garbage. All played out on social media which is the pariah of the modern world allowing any halfwit to infiltrate and voice a opinion, this in turn undermines everything we try to do as once these madcap opinions are out there people will believe them. Hes playing a dangerous game with very serious outcomes and if we can hold out for long enough i believe he will go and perhaps kill off this idea of making this once great company into some hybrid of every other delivery firm out there. I do realise i am very fortunate as i am nearing retirement with no mortgage or kids to worry about, but i do worry about the people i will leave behind and what they will have to go through. The board and shareholders who all originally bought into this company knew what they were buying into when Royal mail was privatised and i think its a bit rich to decide now that its not fit for purpose, 500yr legacy they are trying to flush down the pan, i for one will stick it out to the bitter end and hopefully see the end of this narcissist, i will also understand if you dont have the belief i have and you feel you cant stay out, we live in a democracy which means we are all entitled to our opinion, this is my two cents worth i truly hope i am wrong but from what i can see i believe i am right.

Not at all. Just want this geezer stopped. As it stands no other comfort can be seen on the horizon with regards to Thompson.

Which is why I'd advocate, that there needs to be a major new labour movement, where the pendulum of power in this country swings back to the workers. Zero hours contracts banned, bogus self-employment outlawed, fire and rehire made illegal. Anti-union legislation revoked, CEO's pay capped to a multiple of their lowest paid employee. Capital gains taxed at a rate beyond income tax, make work pay again. All these things could be done, but only at a political level.

Workers have been squeezed for decades, while profits, and CEOs pay has increased exponentially. We are just a symptom of a system that's rigged against workers (it's been systematically designed to be that way).

Not backing down to that jumped up arsehole and his "team" nonsense. He quite clearly doesn't care about us or the long term future of the business.

We either win or the company goes down the shitter and becomes another Hermes/Evri with a service level to match while Thompson rides off into the sunset with a golden handshake for being crap at his job, again.

So we strike, and we bring the company to it's knees, then we get replaced with owner drivers, and people on worse contracts.

The idea is to break the unions and keep us down, all it takes is for one to crumble and it's a knock-on effect. Although I feel we are the weakest union (I may be wrong) we have an advantage. We know the job that we built and excelled at is doomed in the form that it is in now. We can totally destroy what's left of this awful company and be no worse off than if we'd rolled over. If we "win" we'll still be owner-drivers getting less pay and working more hours eventually. If we lose, we'll be replaced by cheap foreign labour who will make plenty of money for both themselves and the shareholding rich. They will then return home rich men themselves to be replaced by others. Meanwhile, we will have to capitulate, work for peanuts and bask in a life of poverty with no chance of succeeding.
The government (all of the government) is corrupt and solely working for the very companies that are trying to oppress us so forget simply demanding an election nothing is going to change. Don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about socialism, we all know that doesn't work. There has to be them and us but the gap has to be sensible and most of all fair.

Are we all sick of what's going on or what?

We need a complete change, to our working rights, our health care, our terrible outdated laws, and a multitude of other failures that have been exposed and never resolved for decades. In order to do that it needs a spark, our unions if we ALL PULL TOGETHER can create that spark. We need one leader (from CWU, RMT, Unison, Unite FBU, GMB etc) who is willing to stand up and call for revolution involving ALL the unions. We all come out together whether legally or not. There are more of us than there are of them. Let's stop this destructive race to the bottom caused by corporate greed and get people who should be in power, in power.

Imagine there’s no Thompson, it’s easy if you try,
A clean floor below us, a big yearly pay rise,
Imagine all the postmen, living on good pay …

Imagine no revision, it isn’t hard to do,
No door to doors or lapsing, no working after 2,
Imagine all the postmen, living life in peace…

You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one,
I hope someday you’ll join us, before our jobs are gone.

I've been lucky enough to do things in my life that I thought myself that I'd never be able to do. But I've done them because I haven't been afraid to try.
