As always easier to blame the Casual worker, Immigrant, Foreigner for your own misfortune,

Never the company or government for their own failures
This comment is bang out of order. Who is blaming immigrants or foreigners or indeed casuals ?
All i have read is people blaming RM or CWU. The government have been silent apart from stating they have non intention to change the USO.

If Royal Mail can't think of other ways to diversify and make more revenue when they own vast amounts of warehouse space, and have a ready made nationwide network of haulage drivers and routes then I'm sorry but there is something badly wrong.
We aren't talking dragons den style creativity here.
Further down the line Royal Mail could also act as a full e-commerce fulfilment business for the likes of eBay and other e-commerce businesses.
It beggars belief that the only options appear to be cost cutting, and levelling down.
As for postal delivery workers on the rounds. . . . .Well as we have every single business and residential property as potential clients already due to the USO, we clearly need the numbers of employees we already have. We can't yet employ robots to do this work so the additional revenue brought in on the network side (and GLS profits) still would have to in part contribute to their salaries.
In time perhaps sub contracted parcel delivery work (we already have for a long time delivered down stream access mail so what's the difference really), and charging for eBay collections and doorstep returns are options.
Many other creative solutions could be sort with the resources we have.
The current situation is diabolical and disgraceful.
Absolutely spot on.
Where's the business creativity?
Instead of focusing on attacking us how about focusing on how best to use the network already set up and running efficiently .

No one gets paid for delivering D2D any more, the D2D money was rolled into the delivery supplement, you get the same money, no matter how many D2Ds there are

:Applause RM have never appeared to be interested in building the business. They only ever want to plod along without any Forward Planning. :arrrghhh

I'm totally convinced they're incapable of coming up with an original idea, like most Unit Managers (who I consider incompetent) the Senior Managers are just happy to take the money and just continue playing catch up with other more Pro-Active Businesses.

Apart from the recent campaigns about exchanging Old Stamps and the Customer Collect service when was the last time we used our postion of delivering to those "32 million households" to actually drum up any business? No it's easier to just sack people because of course "Postmen are our biggest cost". Makes my blood boil. :cuppa

CWU alternative plan:

This must build on the strategy agreed in the Pathway to Change Agreement
and should be seen as an alternative to abandoning the a.m Delivery period.

 RMG will invest in a project with CWU to diversify and grow the business
beyond letters and parcels, exploring new commercial markets, supporting
communities, driving local and regional business growth, introducing new
local-to-local services and acting as an advocate for environmental change.

 We will also jointly approach the Government, Metro Mayors and local
Councils with a plan to put RMG and its workforce at the centre of community
wealth building projects and approaches to assist the UK economic recovery
and levelling up agenda.

 The above approach will focus on how we can utilise Royal Mail’s competitive
advantage in its unique reach in delivering daily to 32 million addresses and
the special relationship that employees have with customers on the doorstep.

 The plan will also focus on how we can use Royal Mail’s existing
infrastructure, including Mail Centres, to support new revenue streams.

 CWU are ready to meet the RMG Board and present the above as part of an
alternative business plan. CWU also has a coalition of partners ready to
support this approach.
All sounds brilliant, like a political party's manifesto, but absolute zero substance.

Any substance that ever did come out of above will be months if not years down the road, be subject to lengthy trial periods of this, lengthy trial periods of that, followed by lengthy reviews of the lengthy trials, then into the lengthy fine details, with RM wanting this and the CWU wanting that, and the end result is the status quo.

It is akin to trying to re-invent the wheel.

RM want the changes now, they don't want an idea suggested now to still be being discussed 5 years down the line. What is disgraceful is that they do not care one iota who they tread over to get what they want. This is one dressing room that is lost forever.

As for political party support, forget it, The Tories are obviously anti-union, and as for the suggestion made on here to just put letters back into government ownership, it ain't gonna happen, full stop, so stop dreaming. As for Labour, they are far more interested in the railways dispute than this one, trying to define what a woman is, and just bitching at the Tories.
