Who's enjoying there job right now?
Well, I know we've been through some major changes recently and there is a lot of bad feeling on here but there must be someone who is still enjoying their work?

Never denied it - despite all of the upheaval last year this is still the best job I have ever done. Its just a pity that internal politics within Royal Mail seems to get in the way and that still some are digging in their heels over parts of the agreement.
Mind you my cup has always been half full rather than half empty.

Yea, i am very much an outdoors kinda person (apart from the ice and snow) and i see my customers as my friends and a large number on first name terms with. They really appreciate the effort i do. Only bit i dont like about the job is the bit in the office from 6am - 9.30 am or so! The managers watching your every move! hate that bit!

Hate this job at the minute, having to deal with incompetent, bullying managers and not knowing what you have to do from one day to another and the constant filling in of forms to update records. I'm really very close to smacking my DUM at the moment

The reason I stay at RM is because of the pay and there are some humerous posties that work in my section. It is nice to see that some people are still able to have a laugh and a joke because there are some posties that are too serious, they never smile. RM would be a better place overall if we had some better managers because I think this is the reason why some posties do not enjoy their jobs.

I still enjoy it tbh, but some things really do grind my gears, for example, today, I was supposed to recieve training to work in the callers office ( especially as I will be covering my colleague when she is on leave next week ). My usual start time is 7am - I was not informed I had to be in early, despite my colleague telling me ( when I presented myself to her ) that she has about 90% of the work set up by 7am!
Then after about 45 minutes, I was dragged out of there to sort during the IPS, then when that was finished, to clear missorts from benches & then sort them, the clear the sorting frames, and a legion of other little jobs that could have been done by one of the terracotta army
. Finally I was released to go back into callers, and tbf, I was still learning about the job ( quite easy if you go in with zero knowledge ) & I was there for about 90 mins, before one of the screws came up in a flap, saying I'd have to go out and deliver a bag of mail that were being cut off & I resisted ( how am I supposed to smoothly take over the callers office if I know SFA? ), not least because my colleague was on her meal break.....but as soon as I was back, I was dragged out & told to grab my pouch & hi-vis & get out there
What really wound me up was there were two more experienced ADSOs kept in to sort, plus at least 2 screws that should have levered themselves out of their chairs to finish that delivery ( if it was so urgent someone couldn't have done it when they returned from their own delivery ).
When I got back, I was late having my own MR, but I doubted I could raise the issue in a calm and logical manner, so I just got my food & chilled for 30 mins, before going back to work till 1pm and then leaving for home ( not before arranging to come in early tomorrow, so maybe I can learn the whole shooting match, rather than the half assed approach I got today ). The whole day was a textbook example of C&C management style, running around to put out fires that weren't there, while others could be taking hold ( me, in the callers next week, on my own & half trained, getting help from screws with less ability or knowledge than me )! If this is what flexibility means, I'm sure some people next week will want me to tell :lfo & :cfo to poke it up their a*se!

The job is ok, but I don't enjoy changing walks every week especially if you are not going to finish it quick. I hope everything will improve from April after the changes take place. Hopefully the workload is much better balanced. I hate it when you are doing delivery and you got about 90 minutes to go and see someone finished already :(

Believe me Carew - that doesn't just happen to people who are constantly changing walks - I am a full timer with my own good and settled walk and I am passed at least 90 minutes before the finish every day by the same 3 idiots who come in up an hour early and don't take their breaks. I hope when the walks are rebalanced that the DOM has noticed that they are home at least an hour before their finishing times and gives them a little something extra to fill their idle hours.Carew wrote:The job is ok, but I don't enjoy changing walks every week especially if you are not going to finish it quick.
