Re: Where is it ???
After 7 months of talk, you will expect some meat on the bones... Lots of waffle!
Are they seriously still trying to defend defunct and redundant allowances for example. If so, can they just come out with it.
If the pay is not good enough, say so; let us know what the sticking points are?
The pay deal is a slight improvement on the previous but backdate 3.5% plus the bonus for 1 year (because inflation might go down) and no loss of pay through strikes will have been better.
We have a bit of concession on the length of final payment for some of the allowances (it has been a good ride for those getting them). Sick pay -- now we can be sick twice in a year without repercussions. No Sunday working but a voluntary scheme and enhance payment phased out over 4 years.
IHR has been left as it was - good!
Later starts - 3 years for people to sort themselves out (it will be done earlier)
The CWU cannot compel RM on use of agencies or owner drivers - they will be introduced...
What is the way forward here?

Being realistic what’s on the table now is more or less the final deal which will be eventually put to us and will probably be voted in.chrisj wrote: ↑24 Nov 2022, 16:36After 7 months of talk, you will expect some meat on the bones... Lots of waffle!

It's like they've just chucked a load of words for corporate bulls**t bingo up into the air and see whatnorris9 wrote: ↑24 Nov 2022, 16:07CWU alternative plan:
This must build on the strategy agreed in the Pathway to Change Agreement

RMG will invest in a project with CWU to diversify and grow the business
beyond letters and parcels, exploring new commercial markets, supporting
communities, driving local and regional business growth, introducing new
local-to-local services and acting as an advocate for environmental change.
We will also jointly approach the Government, Metro Mayors and local
Councils with a plan to put RMG and its workforce at the centre of community
wealth building projects and approaches to assist the UK economic recovery
and levelling up agenda.
The above approach will focus on how we can utilise Royal Mail’s competitive
advantage in its unique reach in delivering daily to 32 million addresses and
the special relationship that employees have with customers on the doorstep.
The plan will also focus on how we can use Royal Mail’s existing
infrastructure, including Mail Centres, to support new revenue streams.
CWU are ready to meet the RMG Board and present the above as part of an
alternative business plan. CWU also has a coalition of partners ready to
support this approach.
landed and that's the plan. Well it's not. 'Invest in a project' - what project? 'Jointly approach .......with a plan' - what plan?
'Wealth building projects' - sounds like they want us to be DIY SOS in red vans?
You need a plan to present now not just come up with random vague thoughts that might (most likely won't) come to fruition
in a years time when guess what, we'd be looking for the next pay rise talks to start.
If this was presented to a bank as a proposal for a business loan they'd escort you off the premises.

That actually made me choke on my tea!einastronaut wrote: ↑24 Nov 2022, 16:22Well, if it's so easy to find them, could the CWU oblige the rest of us (and apparently the company) by providing a few examples, if this is what the CWU are striking to achieve.
Should we be asking councils how much they'd pay postal workers to scrape gum off the pavement? Might as well, right? That's "utlizing the competitive advantage" we have from walking the streets every day, right? How about feeding people's cats when they're away? Or walking their dogs? Surely there's an easy billion in revenue to be found by washing people's cars for them?

Re: Where is it ???
If Royal Mail can't think of other ways to diversify and make more revenue when they own vast amounts of warehouse space, and have a ready made nationwide network of haulage drivers and routes then I'm sorry but there is something badly wrong.
We aren't talking dragons den style creativity here.
Further down the line Royal Mail could also act as a full e-commerce fulfilment business for the likes of eBay and other e-commerce businesses.
It beggars belief that the only options appear to be cost cutting, and levelling down.
As for postal delivery workers on the rounds. . . . .Well as we have every single business and residential property as potential clients already due to the USO, we clearly need the numbers of employees we already have. We can't yet employ robots to do this work so the additional revenue brought in on the network side (and GLS profits) still would have to in part contribute to their salaries.
In time perhaps sub contracted parcel delivery work (we already have for a long time delivered down stream access mail so what's the difference really), and charging for eBay collections and doorstep returns are options.
Many other creative solutions could be sort with the resources we have.
The current situation is diabolical and disgraceful.

Re: Where is it ???
I’ve read it and it spells out quite clearly what we want as a business plan going forward. Anything less and we fight on.einastronaut wrote: ↑24 Nov 2022, 15:47https://www.cwu.org/wp-content/uploads/ ... evised.pdf
There you go. As a forewarning, it doesn't make for good reading.
The "alternative business plan" laid out in section 4 makes it abundantly clear that the Union has no alternative business plan. It includes such wonderfully vague (but ESG buzzword friendly) suggestions like: postal workers "becoming advocates for environmental change", "supporting communities" and "assisting the levelling up agenda."
They proposed nothing commercially viable. Not a single marketable product. Nothing that would generate revenue to pay our wages.
Ostensibly, there is no plan - just a suggestion to create a collaborative focus group to talk about maybe, one day, making a new plan.
This counter-proposal demonstrates just how far from a resolution the Union really are. If anything it shows that they're essentially not interested in ever resolving the dispute. They don't want to engage with reality. If at this late stage, they thought the company would accept any part of that proposal then they are genuinely and hopelessly deluded.

They do have a history of doing this and RM more or less get what they want. Just a pity we're gonna end up losing couple of grand to end up with what RM offered us in the first place.
