Evening all..i work in network and with what Thompson wants i'd give it 6 months before everything crashed and burned. North West hub is a joke has been since it opened. The volume of just 2nd class and un machinable parcels it cant cope with is just unreal. The actual machanics of how RM works is beyond this man. Where are all the 350 odd hubs going to be. As far as im aware RM dont buy new buildings. Oh and new NDC not online til 2024. Good luck ST coz the work we do and how big an operation RM is ur plan is doomed. RM hasnt invested in years, yet now plans modernisation on the back of us. Wow !!!!! just wow

There is no way the union could accept the current deal on offer. Either the RM board must know this and be prepared to sacrifice xmas in an attempt to smash the union or ST is driving this through himself and hopefully he will get kicked out before more damage is done.

I made an online order last week. The item was despatched and showing on the Evri, on 18th, as on its way. On the 19th it was out for delivery. On the same day another notification came up saying its delayed, and will be delivered the next day. Its now the 24th and it's still saying the same message from 5 days ago. My theory is Evri has been overwhelmed with customers trying to avoid the disruption. They just don't have the reach, capacity or network Royal Mail has. I'd also add, we process work for the likes of Amazon. So, I don't think the comparison is straight forward. Its a bit more nuanced maybe.

The guy who delivers the Evri parcels on my round has had half of round taken off him as he would get to overwhelmed with parcels. DPD are just as disjointed as Royal Mail I had two parcels delivered by them on Tuesday from two different drivers and Yodel and Amazon just leave your parcels on the doorstep.

Not a chance these companies could absorb Royal Mail work.

There are no alternatives to deliver MAIL which is what the majority of posties spend most of their time delivering. It is the pounding the streets day after day which takes its toll on the body and health of Royal MAIL workers which means that we can't be compared to Herpes and the rest.

Fools bought shares in Royal MAIL knowing that the business was saddled with the onerous obligation of delivering MAIL at a price that they were unable to control under the USO. Complaining down the line that the obligation is, in fact, onerous just demonstrates their stupidity in buying in to the company. The shares would have cost far more without having to deliver loss making letters to rural adresses and the far ends of the country.

The board know that, but equally, they know the deal is a lot more tempting to the shop floor than the shite they initially came up with.

Add in the talk of job losses, four figure electric bills and the ever increasing cost of a weekly food shop - plus the prospect of getting hammered with pay deductions over Christmas - it’s an offer designed to break the unity we had been showing as a workforce.

It’s notable the hierarchy are already making suggestions a larger proportion of the workforce have crossed the picket line today and fractions are becoming more and more visible on here and workplace, making it feel like we’re starting to lose this game of chicken.

Granted what is on the table right now is still crap… but I’m concerned we’re running out of leverage to eek out much more with THIS particular negotiation.

However, even if we signed up now, this clearly isn’t the end of the matter - relations will be difficult throughout next year and a lot of these new initiatives are doomed to failure because RM management are awful at implementation!
