I don’t want to put a dampener on the first of these two lovely days we’re off but am I right in saying we are now just waiting for the shafting to commence? The talks have ended and we’ve gained nothing. Even the paltry offer on pay is likely to be withdrawn. I’m becoming less and less optimistic that the remaining strikes will make any difference but we must crack on with them or we’ll never know.

Don't worry there's plenty of Hopium on this forum, we are on the brink of a spectacular victory!

We are halfway across the Rubicon here and the sides seem to be further apart than ever before. Hopefully everyone looking for VR can get it over the next year or so.

Well, this is the second ‘final offer’ in quick succession, that should already have been withdrawn given we’re now on strike.

And I’m pretty sure the deal before this was a ‘final / best offer too.’

I guess both sides are going to brood in the national press I expect today, but there’s possibly some dialog in the background because it will be next week strike days that will hit much harder.

The only differences from the last 2 offers is:

Pay deal that was over 2 years is now 18 months and includes PF.
Family friendly hours will be available, subject to if it's workable locally, which we know it won't be.
Sundays are voluntary, when they were never likely to be mandatory in the first place.

All the other nasties remain.

Has the seasonal hours thing changed from the annualised? Working two hours a week more in the winter and two less in the summer sounds better than what they were planning to do.

Well Thompson said if we took strike action today then talks are over. Yet he’s just been on sky news saying they are available to talk to Dave Ward at any time. He’s a bluffer and a s**t one at that. No doubt there will be another ‘best and final offer’ next week which looks suspiciously like this one.

Is there really any difference between season and annualised hours?

The difference is that RM are now suggesting it'll be a maximum of 2 hrs per week rather than 5 hrs per week, although it's still not been made clear how the hours worked will be recorded or controlled.

Our manager can't even handle "long and shorts" during the week, and has yet to master the fine art of doing a rota before Friday / Saturday, for the following week.

The idea that managers can implement a flexi hours bank system, is laughable. I think it's pretty clear, that system could be "gamed" pretty easily. There's no way I'd "bank" any hours, and owe the company any of my time.

Seasonal hours, potentially they can handle that if it's just 30 mins either way. We're dealing with extremely incompetent managers in Royal Mail, half these plans are unworkable if front end staff don't play ball. They are also incentivising us, to be less efficient.

What Royal Mail seems to forget continuously, is that it's the front end staff, that carry this business, it's reputation, and whether it gets things delivered or whether things falls to pieces.

Tip of the iceberg . Is that two hours to start with raising to at least five once it's up and running . For me Simon Thompson has lost all credibility . I wouldn't trust a word that comes out of his mouth and the sooner he's kicked out of the company the better .
