New RM offer

I’ve been massively critical of the union during this and no doubt will be in the future. But today I will say a big thank you that they rejected this garbage which was clearly a last ditch attempt from RM to save Christmas whilst stripping away everything we/the union have fought for over decades. Feared the worst when the offer came out this morning but relieved the union didn’t fall for it this time. It’s about the fourth time RM have said this is the ‘best and final offer’ so let’s keep the pressure on and see where we get to.

On parcelforce they have offered the 7% on pay but not the 2% lump sum. Plus on owner drivers they now want no cap which is unacceptable.

On fleet they have only offered 5.5% and they want outsourcing.

Both unacceptable.

Does the 2% imposed pay rise make up the 7%?

I don't understand why it's not backdated then.

I'll be fighting to the death, yeah it will be tough BUT it will be a whole lot tougher If that gets brought in.

That is why we do not have to put up with this low paid gig economy anymore .

I know we should hold out for the best possible deal but they union are pushing for a 2 year deal. Which means RM will likely push everything through after this current deal is done. 2 years will fly by.

People need to get in their heads around the reality of what this job is. Any Joe blow can push mail through doors. If you want better, then get better skills. Many are gonna get in their feelings but that's just a fact. We ain't doctors or nurses who have grafted to qualify for their roles.

I plan on leaving in about a year & in the meantime learning a skill on the side. People who complain & stay in the same roles are deluded. If you don't like it leave it.

Uses doctors and nurses as an example.... yet doctors and nurses have been leaving their jobs in droves due to being unhappy, overworked and underpaid.

'any joe blow can deliver letters'.... well why do Royal Mail struggle to retain and recruit staff?.... can't be that easy or desirable. It's not like we get paid well. Might be ok to live on this wage if you live in Liverpool or South Wales, but try living on a Posties salary in the South East. Costs of homes/renting there is 2x, even 3x more than most of the country, but we don't get paid more.

So doctors & nurses go through years of training & paying expensive tuition fees & loads are quitting to work at their local Sainsbury's, ok mate lol. Think your stuck in the past with the Brexit causing a shortage of medical workers cause very unlikely they will quit a high paying job in droves like your saying. If they do quit, they tend to go private or take a similar job role.

But even if you're right, the point I was making was that certain professions get more perks & treatment than others. Whether you like it or not we are in the unskilled category. Unskilled workers aren't valued as much as people with skills.

Not saying we should roll over & accept bad terms, just saying people need to be real about what type of job they signed up to. As the years go on this job will get worse, if you still have hope it won't then your kidding yourself.

2% has already been implemented, so yes it’s part if the 7%. They are clearly trying to get away with not backdating anything else, typical really. Nothing much has changed, we fight on.
