Re: Poll: what, if anything, would you be willing to compromise on
My own 3 big sticking points which I won’t negotiate on are as follows in no particular order:
No to compulsory Sundays - it’s the one day a week myself and my wife both have off. I help out on guitar with the church band, often go to motor racing on a Sunday afternoon. A big no.
Retaining my 4 day week - An ever growing number of businesses are bringing in 4 day weeks while not dropping their employees pay (the idea being they’ll fit 5 days into 4 days). I dropped down to a 4 day week and unlike those businesses my pay dropped too, I did that through choice after a very tough period in my life and accepted the lower pay, not a problem to me, and I accept unlike most businesses it’s not possible here to squeeze 5 days work into 4. However there are rumours going around that RM are wanting to get rid of these contracts and put me back onto a 5 day (out of 7) week. Do that and I will make things a nightmare for my line manager.
Commit to deliver - I want a start and finish time. I can kind of see the point to 30 mins less in summer and 30 mins more in winter (although RM never works like that, I rarely complete any of the rounds here in my hours). But I don’t want to be telling my wife that I can’t take her to her appointment about her life changing health condition because Boots have had a promotion on and we’ve been hammered with parcels.

The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

In the end virtually everything will come in via EA,, SSP,, man management,,annualized hours,,Sunday working,,,you name it.
For me the 2 biggies which the union must insist never comes in is bench merging,,that f#!$ing shite that will never work,,,try merging it all in your van!!!,,, and commit to deliver,, because the way this company is going you'll be out there until god knows when,, 6,7,8pm!!!. Just f#$$ing great

Given that RM brought in a second manager to implement the trial of bench merging, my gut feeling is that RM will be determined to force it throughYumyum wrote: ↑20 Nov 2022, 15:46In the end virtually everything will come in via EA,, SSP,, man management,,annualized hours,,Sunday working,,,you name it.

It'll only get forced through if it actually saves timeSpacePhoenix wrote: ↑20 Nov 2022, 16:12Given that RM brought in a second manager to implement the trial of bench merging, my gut feeling is that RM will be determined to force it throughYumyum wrote: ↑20 Nov 2022, 15:46In the end virtually everything will come in via EA,, SSP,, man management,,annualized hours,,Sunday working,,,you name it.

By all accounts it doesnt - as you would expect if youve ever did the job
The whole point of it is time saving ( cost cutting ) so if it isnt taking us quicker to prep then its not going to happen. What would be the point if it took us longer to get out the door?
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

^ but it could save a heck of a lot of space and thus result in the downsizing of DO’s or merging of offices.

Yepp, they've also said they want to reduce the amount of Customer service points (CSPs), saying that footfall is down. No s**t footfall is down, you reduced the hours they are open during covid, and kept that as a cost saving measure.

Tbh that doesn’t bother me as long as I have a finish time, they can bring in whatever stupid ideas they want, have us wrap presents on doorsteps, check electric meters, cook dinner for elderly customers, take dogs for a walk, sweep the paths as we go.....bring it in, I’ll do whatever I’m told to then clock out on time.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

What about monthly pay? Are they aiming for that as well?

We’ll be bringing a lot more back with later hours. People will all be out. Unless we are still out once the school pick up has happened.

When I started this job, we were on 43 hours a week.the union has fought to get the working hours down to 37 hours, we need to remember our union are there to try and get us the best possible deal.we need to stand firm behind them the best we can
