But there does need to be a deal, I wouldn't take this as far, as destroying the company. Like some others seem to be advocating.
We're all entitled to our opinions, this is after all a discussion forum, and this post has certainly generated a lot of discussion.

I think you need to bear in mind that not all Posties are as flexible as you, in either attitude or possibility. IMO the person who is destroying this company is Simon Thompson.

ST doesn't care two shites about the future of Royal Mail, or it's Employees. He is a Journeyman, all he does care about is himself! He will milk this Business for all he can get, take his Bonuses & Shares and move onto another Company where he will repeat the process like some kind of Capitalist Parasite. :no no

Like a lot of my colleagues I actually like this job, despite the fact we always moan about it. It worries me that if ST gets his way this job may become unrecognisable in the future. It's already changed so much over the last couple of decades. I don't want ST to ruin what's left of it and leave us as some kind of Amazon wannabee courier! :cuppa
Like all Wage Slaves, he had two crosses to bear: The people he worked for and the people he worked with! (Stephen Vizinczey.)

Later start times in DOs will ultimately be determined by the arrival times into inward MCs. If the work arrives say an hour later then it'll be an hour later before it's ready for sending out to DOs. Say the final dispatch time is currently 06:30 and gets made an hour later, you're bound to have to add at least half an hour on top of that to account for the lorries getting caught in traffic
Not sure you're going to 90% of employees striking just over the change of hours when it only affects those with primary(?) aged children, those affected will have to either look at other arrangements or find another job as it's clear from DW's last update RM are going to bring in later starts but, hopefully, not as late as there original plans.

Yeah, I agree. On all your points. The person who is destroying Royal Mail is Simon Thomson, but he is a symptom, of post privatisation, right?

The only thing we differ on, is whether the next series of strikes, makes it more likely that we win, or he wins. I think if we don't cut a deal, the dismantling of a former great public service will be accelerated.

By not making an agreement, we essentially give them Carte Blanche, to follow through with the more parasitic aspects of their plan.

That's personally, where I stand. So I'm kinda watching people willing to take this as far as possible, thinking, that's going to be the worst possible outcome for the thing you're trying to protect. If that makes sense.

I understand what you're saying. We have the two ends of the spectrum. Those who don't want to get involved in anything (and just bury their heads in the sand) and those who are willing to die in the ditch (and see the company burn)! There's obviously a lot of colleagues somewhere in between. :hmmmm

You also have to factor in that wherever you look on that spectrum there's a lot of Posties who just don't like being bullied & dictated to, whatever their stance on Striking, or the CWU. I hope ST's antagonistic, and aggressive, approach to Negotiations (Ha) encourages our more "Moderate" colleagues to support their Union and the upcoming Strikes. :thumbup

ST's lucky that this confrontation has come to a head during this period of Financial Crisis (some might say engineered it). He's now using Posties Financial problems as a weapon to try and drive them back to work, perhaps against their True feelings! This is nothing new and there's countlesss examples of exactly this tactic throughout history. Stay Strong. :cuppa

It was obvious to me, what Simon Thomson was, from the first moment I heard him speak, and overuse the word "team". I think of him, not as a person, but as a symptom of a systemic problem. That's what gives him the power to be antagonistic, he wouldn't do anything he's currently doing if he wasn't hiding in a cupboard while doing it, and posting it on "workplace".

Thompson is currently losing his mind at a mock up poster of him as the Grinch on Workplace, asking how it helps to get a deal.

I'm really not sure how this guy is the CEO, shouldn't being able to take (or more specifically, ignore) a bit of stick be a key requirement for someone in such an important role?

Well it's up to us to make sure he doesn't bully us. It's frustrating but we can't back down now. We HAVE to see it through to the end!!!

Yes i have checked that's why i voted to strike.
Yeah, and some of the times are extreme. I get it, it's not practical to expect 11:30 as a starting time. With the potential for annualised hours on top of that. People are not in a position to accept that, those are just not acceptable.

There are only a handful of extreme cases though, and those should be mitigated as much as possible.

The vast majority of new start times are between 8 and 9am. Is that something people can't adjust to? The feedback in my office and other's in the area, all with start times between 8-9 was "that's not so bad".
You need to factor in the arrival times of the final runs from the MCs which are highly likely to get caught in traffic
Good point, so you think they haven't modelled for that, and they'd be even later in practise?
Neither have they factored in, the 2 hours working in the dark, which despite what ST thinks, does take longer. Being stuck in school and work traffic. Bollocks to completing a duty that’s an hour longer than it is now and I’m out late because the wagon didn’t get in on time.
