Yes i have checked that's why i voted to strike.
Yeah, and some of the times are extreme. I get it, it's not practical to expect 11:30 as a starting time. With the potential for annualised hours on top of that. People are not in a position to accept that, those are just not acceptable.

There are only a handful of extreme cases though, and those should be mitigated as much as possible.

The vast majority of new start times are between 8 and 9am. Is that something people can't adjust to? The feedback in my office and other's in the area, all with start times between 8-9 was "that's not so bad".
It will be bad when they are delivering mail at 5pm in winter in the rain. If the finish times are unaffected then sure crack on with later starts… Under ST’s regime any overtime will have to be done in the morning before start of shift to clear yesterdays bags and LATs as no one will be wanting to stay out all night.
I guess it comes down to what you're doing now. Our office times won't change much. Rural FT duty finish times have been between 3 and 4.15pm for over 2 yrs now. Most can't complete in time, so they already are working in the dark in winter. It really isn't as big a problem as you first might think. A good head torch on and it's not much different. Kids are home from school so you get rid of more pkts. People moaning because they won't be able to pick their kids up from school? Don't know how they do now, they finish before we do now. If people are moaning about having to start at 8 or 9am FT or 9-10am PT well, we've got used to changes before. You just have to adapt and be 'glass half full' and look at the ways you can turn it to your advantage. Human beings are brilliant at adapting , you just have look for the plus points for you and not dwell on the negatives. Sunday pkts are a breeze and something I enjoy as a change from the usual grind. Annualized hrs would pxxs some people off that get flyers in summer and do overtime in winter but only for financial reasons because they actually work those hrs now, they just get away with it in summer and get paid for it in winter with overtime. How would they feel if they were the ones running a business? These changes aren't such a big deal if you look at the big picture and open your eyes. Don't know how they'd work annual leave around annualized hrs, not seen anything on that yet.
Sick leave proposals will not be good, personally I think it will drive people who are better after 3 days to just take the whole week. However people have got to realize sick leave is not the law, it's a perk and one which has been abused by many, which is probably one reason it's being tightened up. I think sometimes people get on their high horse about changes before they've actually taken a step back and really looked into how it could advantage them.
Just my opinion.
I'm hoping for VR, but as I say, our office wouldn't see much changes to what it's doing now.
I don’t know where to start with this , I’m sure that’s posted by Simon or one of his cronies.
Might have known it would get that reaction. There's no hope for you if you don't have an open mind. We could all die tomorrow, you really have to embrace your life and make the best of any situation and also realise nothing stays the same and nobody owes you a living. You make what you want from your life, you only have one and it's too short. No I'm not a manager, never have been. Never will be. Im too over qualified and kind for that role at royal mail.

We've all gotta make that choice. Personally a couple of £/hr less to work in a supermarket (Sundays included) would hold no appeal to me. Just as an example of an alternative. I like being outdoors too much, indoor work would drive me crazy.

Obviously to get a sensible deal that it can present to its members or are you happy to bend over and accept every change that Royal Mail proposes ?
What you have to realise is, the changes are happening with our without the union. Most of the changes are structural, which they are powerless to stop.
On a personal level, later start times don't affect me much, my office will be less than an hour later, Sunday working, my office isn't listed as a Sunday Hub (most aren't).

Royal Mail have totally outplayed us, and people need to accept that reality.
So just because the proposed changes don't really impact on YOU you're recommending that everyone else just roll over and except whatever RM want?

I wonder if you'd have a different attitude if YOU were under threat of losing your job, or had to start several hours later screwing up your Family Friendly Hours or having to work those Sundays which a lot of your fellow posties might well have to. I guess you'll be crossing the picket lines next week? :cuppa

You need to factor in the arrival times of the final runs from the MCs which are highly likely to get caught in traffic
Good point, so you think they haven't modelled for that, and they'd be even later in practise?
I wouldn't put it past them to have just gone on the current journey times for the final dispatches. With all the work coming into the MC later, realistically I think we're going to get our start and finish times made an hour later, along with final dispatches being made an hour later, within the next 6 months.

The bench merging which RM are "trialling" (my gut feeling is that they'll force it in everywhere, whether it works or not), relies on wave 2 mech being sequenced. With the current final dispatch times, it doesn't allow for that, you'd need to make the final dispatch times an hour later. If they want ALL of wave 2 sequenced then we won't be able to start sequencing till around 06:00 so you'd be looking at somewhere between 07:30-08:00 final dispatch times

:cuppa
I've said that I hope the extreme cases can be mitigated as much as possible.

Sure, I'm not affected much by later starts, or Sundays. But, even if I were, I can easily do those. I frequently work late afternoons / evenings at Royal Mail (collections) as well as standard delivery. Working the occasional Sunday, I'd have no problem with, most of my previous Jobs, included Sundays.

I am in a situation, where I can be a lot more flexible than most. I have supported the strike action thus far, as I appreciate how the changes will affect other members, and I think the company have acted disgracefully.

But there does need to be a deal, I wouldn't take this as far, as destroying the company. Like some others seem to be advocating.

Later start times in DOs will ultimately be determined by the arrival times into inward MCs. If the work arrives say an hour later then it'll be an hour later before it's ready for sending out to DOs. Say the final dispatch time is currently 06:30 and gets made an hour later, you're bound to have to add at least half an hour on top of that to account for the lorries getting caught in traffic

I'm hoping for VR, but as I say, our office wouldn't see much changes to what it's doing now.
What do think of the NEW VR terms? :hmmmm

Like most Posties I've looked at them out of curiosity ...... Mine's been reduced by about 2/3rds .... Not enough to Retire on. :thumbdown

I think if you're a Senior OPG you'll be less likely to get VR, they'll go for the cheapest option and let those with less service go first. :cuppa

Strikes are all about NOT working. That is the whole point of them...can't you see that, !!!!

As long as RM management show a complete lack of respect for their workforce with their current proposals then we will continue striking, piss off RM's customers and stop the business from working.
