What do you mean by "cut a deal"? Simply accept whatever RM are currently proposing in changes to our terms and conditions with a massive real terms pay cut thrown in for good measure?
I hope that there isn't a snowball's chance in hell that any union would "cut a deal" like that.

Like, I'd really like to know what we'd accept. At the moment, with inflation at 10/11% not only are we accepting a real terms pay cut, but with strikes, we're accepting a large nominal pay reduction, and for what? We have achieved literally nothing so far.
I won't vote to accept any "deal" that isn't at least an inflation based pay rise with extra for any changes that they want. I'm happy to keep striking unless we get that. The union's only mandate from members is to achieve a no strings pay deal.

Which is why the union are hanging on in there , they obviously still think there is leverage for a better deal and if Simon has moved today from yesterday, they are probably right ahead of more talks tomorrow.

To be honest, the CWU are in a no win position. If they reject this deal, all we'll get if we strike over Black Friday / XMAS is more redundancies, and a worse outcome.
Unfortunately, a s**t deal is the best they can do now, the company don't care. They have their agenda, and they're going to do it, with our without the Union.
The Union have a role, to get the best possible deal out of an employer, and present that to the members. I'd even go as far as to say, I'd apply pressure to the CWU to put the deal to members, by saying It's unlikely I'll support more strike action.
Here we go again with all the negative Nellies, look simple slyman has little to no interest in a deal, except the one in which he royally shafts you. Now maybe it is the "Deal of the century" but i suspect not, the union dont have to vote on every daft idea put forward by the CEO and the fact he calls it a great deal should be enough to let you know its probably crap, "I was expecting to just dot the i and cross the Ts" was his expectation this morning and the fact somebody disagreed with him was enough to have him complain about being ranted at. Surrounding yourself with yes men would lead to this sort of outlook and if he wants to know what a rant is have a look at this. Showing you what he has proposed without giving the union the opportunity to share it with the membership first would be very unprofessional but totally like this narcissist as he thinks he will be getting in the good books again, please dont engage with this nonsense all you are doing is feeding his ego and thats what he thrives on. It really has come down to trying to negotiate with a 5yr old and everytime he hears something he doesnt like its toys out of the pram time and slam the bedroom door shut. Ignore him as without the adoration he feeds on (he does believe any engagement as adoration) he cant survive for long.
