CWU: Letter to MP's

All valid points in the letter, but it’s a bit late in the day to write to MP’s. RM appears to have played for time to run the Xmas clock down, while accelerating their attacks on us and our t&c’s.
Something serious needs to be done, and quickly

A desperate measure by the union who have mismanaged this dispute from day one with pointless 1 day strikes .
week long strikes need announcing TODAY .

Week long strikes won't work, you'd get way too many crossing the picket lines with what they'd lose in pay and RM would plug the gaps with casuals/agency

This dispute would have ended by September if it had been a continuous strike, the country rely on RM far too much. COVID showed that.

I reckon after 2 weeks the company would have caved due to government/public pressure.

It's a shame people don't have the same level of conviction for striking like they did back in 70s/80s.

But all them jobs no longer exist ! Great conviction. Surely other useful ways should have been thought of by now .

Someone with logic.

The government should care. It's imperative to have a reliable mail service even if half of what we deliver is junk mail. It keeps the retail industry thriving. It keeps people informed about all sorts of things whether it be NHS appointments, Council plans/changes, government emergencies. People get prescriptions delivered by us. Business is done through contracts delivered by us. The housing market depends on us with all the documents going back and forth....

You can't let this dissolve into a lesser service which you cannot rely on.


Even though this letter is sounding like 'Please save us - make us a public company again'....if you watched the youtube/facebook live last night, then you would see that both RM and CWU have compromised on a lot of things and seem to be getting somewhere. Whether or not it's all smoke and mirrors from RM - we don't know. So it's good to make the government aware of what could happen and also have strikes ready to go.
