To fight something you got to aim to win .The company do not care they have five weeks and are prepared to write off Christmas. Look a little further and they will load rm with all the debt it can leaving a great big fat turkey gls they will sell off the company blaming the greedy unions .When we gave had strikes in the past it was always on the assumption that the board would at some pont come round the table for meaningful talks. For the ones who say bring the company to its knees by striking you won't they do not care they have no interest in rm in its present form .All the union can do is save the members 400 quid and call them off .Try and negotiate a redundancy package and start again in January anyhow I m out if here wish everyone all the best . .

I see a lot of comments about "imagine being in the trenches with this lot" and it just makes me think that the millions of people dying in the trenches were only there because of some ancient agreement between long dead monarchs, and they were constantly being told "it'll all be over by Christmas" as they needlessly suffered.

The CWU have NOT failed its members.

The CWU have faced an unprecedented situation. In past disputes, the CEO and board have got back round the table when the threat of strikes are announced, or within the first couple of days strikes at the latest. This time, the current CEO and his board have decided to ride the storm, don't care how it hits either the business or its employees and the CWU don't have any answers other than further strikes.

Only a few weeks ago, Dave Ward was saying that there were 2 disputes - one for a no strings attached pay rise (wouldn't discuss anything else), and the other due to the attacks on terms and conditions. You do not hear him saying this in any updates now do you?

Thompson has said many times in this dispute "We will run this company", indicating that he and the board are simply not prepared to allow the CWU to interfere and block everything they want to do.

For those who keep slagging of the CWU, what is the answer then?

The fact that RM were in the room, agreeing to some of the union’s proposals, but then refusing to sign them off says it all really. They won’t move whatever we do now, I will still stand by the union but can’t see the tw*ts giving an inch.
