I can imagine people who are approaching retirement taking the nine months but for people in their 40s and 50s I doubt it very much. It could well end up that the majority of redundancies will be compulsory.

Run the company down like you say, bypass the union and make sweeping changes by just cutting and streamlining everything, reap the rewards when they start making huge profits, congratulate themselves for being so brilliant.

I'm sorry, I have supported the strikes fully and will continue to do so, but, the union need to tell us what their plan is for the company, no more bullshit, no more waffle, what is it they think they can offer that will combat all of this? I don't think they have anything other than pie in the sky dreams. I've done a while, under MTSF I would do ok, if they offered me redundancy today, even the bare legal minimum I would go tomorrow, no hesitation, I would need to find another job but I no longer care, I just want out now as it is too depressing a place to work. The way people are leaving the job almost daily, I don't think anybody will be made redundant.

9 months if anyone takes that they must be desperate! u can get more with 12 months off sick, whats the matter with yous, 9 months will get u a car mot and service after tax wake up, no one is going on with that, need to be at least 12 months realistically 18 months a lot would go, still not as good as 24 months but 18 months would be decent

Makes you wonder if they has been any point in the last 10 days of talks and if there is any point in them continuing.

Looks nailed on the USO will be reduced to 5 days very soon. How many more job losses will that lead to on top of the 10,000 already announced.

More medium and large parcels going from Royal Mail to parcelforce to be delivered by owner drivers. Depending on the sort of volumes they are talking about again that reduction in work could lead to further job losses.

With the reduction in EVR terms and the number of job losses we could be looking at could well be looking at quite substantial compulsory redundancies.

RM can't honour the USO even for 1 day in a week. We and most offices in our sector are failing 50% of mail daily. No attempt of delivery. We haven't the staff or the hours .

• We are deploying dedicated parcel routes from around 350 hubs for larger and next day parcels. We are also looking at how we can improve efficiency by utilising a number of Parcelforce hubs for both Royal Mail and Parcelforce parcels.

• We will move parcel volume from mail centres to super hubs for more efficient processing.

• Currently there is duplication across the Royal Mail and Parcelforce Worldwide networks, with both companies carrying the same format of parcels and visiting the same customers on the same day. As part of our plans to look at how we can more efficiently utilise the Royal Mail and Parcelforce networks, we will implement a single large parcel network to optimise synergies across the two businesses. Most smaller parcels will continue to be delivered by Royal Mail, with more medium and larger parcels being delivered by Parcelforce.

Almost exactly as I predicted, they're going to strip the parcels out of Royal Mail and set up a separate parcels business - writing was on the wall and it amazes me the Union didn't see it coming.

I suspect the next few things we'll see are

Step 1

All the profitable bits will be moved into the new network (set up at massive cost on Royal Mails books, rather than the books of GLS or Parcelforce), delivered by cheaper owner/drivers operating via the new super hubs and parcel depots. Expect to see all the RM Tracked traffic to go via this network for example, along with pretty much all the profitable business traffic.

Step 2

Strip it out completely into Parcelforce, then just leave Royal Mail with the debt of setting up the logistics - maybe even toss in that RM now has to pay Parcelforce to sort its traffic in these new super hubs for some extra profit, since they'll have closed all the mail centres and Royal Mail can't even operate on its own anymore.

Step 3

Proclaim that Royal Mail is bankrupt and unable to sustain the letters network, flog it back to the government on the cheap - Parcelforce sails off with a logistics system no other parcel company can compete with (because they don't have a separate business they can load the massive debt it would require onto) and cheap as f**k deliveries via owner/drivers.

Royal Mail then turns into another privatisation success story, in that it reaps massive benefits for the CEO and shareholders before saddling the Government with a letters business that costs a fortune each year to run - with a tidy little revenue stream as RM will still be forced to pay this new company for the access to super hubs to sort its mail.

The union made a massive mistake allowing owner drivers into the royal mail group via Parcelforce ,
Owner drivers are now going to take royal mail work and soon they will employ part time couriers like evri/hermes does working for a pittance from there own cars ,
Massive job losses for if this happens .

I think you're right. They thought they where dealing with another Rico Back. Unfortunately Simon Thompson is not another Rico Back. He's more, manipulative, slimy, treacherous etc. Out thought and out manoeuvred the CWU in every aspect of this dispute.
