FFS! Read through this,well bits of it and............
There was no reason to mention 'scab' altho it seemed to be in a general term!

RM like to have all the holidays booked asap,that's why we fill out the holiday forms so far ahead.
Once the forms are in the DOM does his bit and within a week or so every one is allocated theirs,that way there is an 'average' off at any one time.
That way the only planning needed is when peeps go sick.

Easy peasy for RM but at times not very good for us.

The above is more for cantype and kingsmoor,this is the way it works here.

As for who gets what,i was under the impression that everyone,within limits,gets at least their 1st choice.

Very sorry POSTMAN that was me who mentioned the word s--- and i wont do it again i have already said sorry for any confusion caused in another post as i dont want to upset anyone and i never meant it to mean either i wear panties and shout or her alter ego Kingsmoor was a s--- as i know for a fact that they stood side by side with all the decent posties in the UK last year and to show every one how sorry i am i would like to give both the aplause they deserve.

Now that is out of order but I am leaving it to see how low someone can get. Someone apologieses because he feels he should and your response you belittle him. You obviously have a future but not sure if its with RMC. Also he was not apologising to you but to Postman.

I would have more sympathy with your position but it seems at least 1/2 your posts include abuse at someone so if you cant accept it yourself stop dishing it.

ok so we have had seniority and groups of ten, can't anyone come up with or indeed are using an alternative method

how about a lottery just picking numbers out of a bag determines where you are on the hol pick each year

I like that idea in principle - but there would always be some screws that would try to fix it for their bum lickers ( not every office is 100% union solid ).....and there could be arguments in the inevitable horse trading afterwards - but what the hell, let's stick it in with the others anyway. Anymore for anymore?

I think ours is pretty fair - everyone chooses what they want first.

All the dates and names get put on a board and where any week is booked over leave it for 2 or 3 weeks for people to change their holidays if its no big deal. Then and only then does it come down to seniority.

With 30 people on our section we only had 3 people who did not get all the weeks they had chosen, and in each case it was only 1 week that had to move.

That makes sense to me, too. You only need a method of allocation because one assumes that there are going to be loads of people wanting the same weeks. But there might not be. At least with your 'all the dates and names get put on a board' method, you get a sense of just how much of an overlap there really is. If there's only a handful of weeks over-subscribed, and no-one wants to budge, only THEN do we need some method of deciding who gets what. At that point, you need a method that is completely random, and follows no understandable logic at all.

I think it is very difficult to get a suitable system working, especially with floating week off policy.

I mean I was forced to book a whole week off in May when I just want Friday and Saturday off as it is on after bank holiday week. This is because I will lose 2 days off if I don't. I also tried to book 2 days off before floating week off in August to attend a Jazz Festival and it is a big no.

I also don't like booking holiday so far in advance as I won't know if Aston Villa qualify for Champions League or who is playing who.

I also don't like being asked to book a 2 week block so I put it around September floating week. At least I don't have to worry about family holiday stuff. I normally have a week off in late february/early march and 2 week in autumn and couple of days off when wanted (as long it is not popular time.

In ideal world I will get an easier job working 5 days a week and floating week off policy in smaller firm but that is about likely as Coventry City winning European Cup.

IN OUR OFFICE THEY DID AWAY WITH THE SENIORITY NONSENSE A WHILE AGO EVERYONE IS PUT INTO GROUPS AND A LIST IS MADE UP. IF YOU ARE TOP OF THE LIST YOU GET FIRST PICK OF SUMMER LEAVE (3 WEEKS) THEN YOU GET LAST PICK OF WINTER (2 WEEKS) THIS SYSTEM WORKS WELL AND SEEMS FAIR THE FOLLOWING YEAR YOU ARE LAST TO PICK SUMMER LEAVE AND FIRST FOR WINTER AND SO ON
HOWEVER THIS YEAR IT'S 3 WEEKS SUMMER 1 WEEK WINTER THEN THE LIST GOES ROUND AND YOU PICK ANOTHER . IF YOU ARE LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE ANOTHER WEEK (6) YOU HAVE TO WAIT AGAIN AND TAKE WHATS LEFT!!!
THIS ACCORDING TO OUR REP WAS PART OF THE NATIONAL AGREEMENT

NEXT YEAR OUR DOM IS GOING TO PICK OUR LEAVE FOR US (PART OF THE ALLEDGED AGREEMENT ACCORDING TO OUR REP) ANY ONE ELSE HEARD OF THIS AGREEMENT ?
