Heard today that our office is going to 10 hour shifts if its given the green light by our som 05.00 to 3.00pm up here in scotland i think we are the first not heard of any others up here any over the border.

ummm, 8 hours is long enough! who wants to be stuck in the office any longer than 4 hours or so in the morning!! is this to happen right across the board?

Whether or not it comes in the agreement states that you should not be expected to work for more than 40 hours in 1 week - That means 4 day weeks if you want it.

I would , if I had a vote on it before it came in vote against it. Some things being mentioned at our place in the name of flexibility:
Revert back to 6 days weeks (not sure how you would get 40 hours).
deliver all D2Ds by Wednesday

It shouldn't be down to your DOM if you go into it or not,down in the smoke we are able to vote yes or no on it.
If the majority vote no,then it's a non starter.
We're also looking at 9hr-26mins days,5 day week as now and every 6 weeks a week off,break goes up and we only do bout a quarter of a walk extra.

I can see the point of a vote to change the work plan to introduce flexible working patterns BUT what I can't see is the unholy haste to increase delivery times. RM will be rubbing their hands having large groups of workers with delivery spans exceeding 4.5 hours. Personally I would have waited for them to come with the idea. How long before the 20 hour 2 day week with a donkey?

I can only see the 10hr day working for rural duties because that way RM could make the delivery up to suit without going to the union to get an extension on the 3 1/2 hr delivery for towns.

The younger lads and our union rep WANT 10 hour days ,us older one's most certainly don't ,i am knacked after finishing my walk and the thought of doing longer walks and finishing late afternoons just does not appeal to me one little bit. What about Saturdays i would have to give up cricket and my football season ticket. What made me laugh was when i asked one of the younger lads why he wanted to work 10 hour days he replied " well we won't be working 10 hours a day will we " what planet are these guys on do they think that RM will let them just do there walk then go home ,they still think that job and finish will still apply and these guys are still running around like headless chickens carving up rounds so they can go home early , it really is like banging your head against a brick wall trying to tell them not to rush around. A perfect example last week one of these whiz kids did a rural round that is normally done around 1300 to 1400 this guy did it by 10.30 to 11.00 all week you just cannot get through to them and they just laugh in your face and basically tell you to fu** off.

For what it is worth to you when handheld's and bank'ed annual hour's they will be fu*ked big time!. Be strong stay long and do the job properly you know it makes sense!.

Heard froma very reliable source today that anyone who goes on a 10 hour day will very soon be looking at a four to 4 1/2 delivery span once the flat letter sorting machines are in place. Seems there wont be enought to do indoors under your IWT so delivery span is to be incresaed by Royal Mail ????? no by our own Union. The new enabblers (thnk thats how it is spelt ) now include the words to work under Delivery Best Practice mode. Which wasnt in the wording when anyone signed up for the £400

These 10 hour shifts with 4-5 hour walks is absolutely ludicrus!! This would be a clear attempt by RM bosses to encite illness and poor health and safety issues among their employees!! Surely we are not expected to walk the streets with mail on your back in blazing temperatures for this amount of time, day in day out??? Its madness!! Wheres the f***ing european f****d up health and safety commission now????? I suppose its a good way of shedding staff, KILL US OFF.. Its cheap and profitable... Im serious!!!

walk sequenceing machines how long will it take you to prep between 4 - 5 walks longer than 4 hours i would think
now theres somthing to look forward to
