In my section there’s a number of aisles with a total of 18 people on.

Today all but 1 of them was stood at their frame 15 minutes early prepping, the only one not working before the start time was yours truly. I know 3 of them were paid to come in early but the others have no excuse, these are people with 20, 30 even coming up to 40 years service. And all this when Simon and co are very clear about what they are wanting to do.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

Hmm I stopped worrying about what other people are doing years ago. Better for your health.
That's a good attitude to have, sometimes though people really get on your tits because what they do has an effect on your life

It’s built into them to do it because they’ve done it for a long time. Rather than leaving loops in they feel that they have to clear it,making it easier the next day. Problems occur when there is a revision, the early ones make the duty seem doable, the duty then either stays the same or grows larger- causing whoever picks the duty a headache-unless they cut off.

The same in my office.

I came in on time this morning (earlier start time as it’s Monday) and all I can see is desk after desk of full D2D’s already prepped (4 this week) and already prepping their mech? It seems people are stuck in the same mindset to get out as early as possible by coming in early unpaid.

Yep I find it’s the senior men that are the worst, it’s ingrained in them and they really don’t see the problem with it , they have no shame over it either even when it’s talked about in front of the office, they just soldier on regardless.

Cant say I agree with your last bit, for my DO at least. Having been there for 35 years with work mates that have been there longer, not one of us would work for nothing.

The lad who is my day off cover,to my knowledge breaks every rule in the book. He then gives the impression to management & his cronies that he is some sort of super hero for running about & always completing.

The fact that he is PT & killing what slight chance there is of him ever becoming full time seems lost on him (I’ve tried to explain this to him countless times as weird work ethic aside he’s a half decent chap) :arrrghhh

When people in the business that have been doing the job for decades and have never really changed by coming in early, rushing around, not taking breaks, what's going to change them? Nothing!

It's funny how those sort of folks that come in an hour early work for free, complain about lapsing or even worse still have work taking them up to there finishing time. One guy said to me, I'll take lapsing but I'm certainly not going to be coming back early. Then don't come in early then :arrrghhh

Folk have had it good for too long. I think the guys that do come in early and try and complete just dont want the pressure or hassle of coming in on time.

Got one at ours who always comes in early, he's an old timer about 40yrs in on a cushy rural number he must have about 10 brews before he departs the office, Rep has had a word but in one ear out the other, everyone hates him although it's a bit two faced as people act like he's ok

We’ve just introduced scan in/out so I’m hoping in time that this will change behaviours but I won’t hold my breath.

We have people still coming in hours early but not scanning to sign in until their start time. I feel like we are not just in a battle with RM but with some of our colleagues too.

When other people cover the deliveries and tell the DOM they can't complete the delivery. The DOM says well the regular guy does so I don't see why you can't.
That comment right there by the boss is bullying and harassment ,put in a complaint straight away ,its time to make a stand and other workers in earshot back you up and tell the manager to stop bullying your colleague, union reps now need to step up and question manager's behaviour and stop laughing and chatting to them.
That's not a question its a comparison,a 20 year old postie may run, jump and clear a delivery where a 60 year old maybe a lot slower, comparison's in my book is bullying,on your duty whether the other guy is lazy or not that's not your problem you complete so why are you bothered what others do,that's the problem in Royal Mail to many people think they are better than others, makes me so mad when i here colleagues slagging each other off

Thing that pisses me off in our office is it's actually the majority of the sorters and the old timers that are doing it. So, by the time you even step foot inside the office, all the parcels and IPS is done awhile ago and see people walking out the door. And, there's already people making deals on scanning people out too.

some people come in early and then have nothing to do and then come round and try to talk to people who just come in at the right start time.

That'll backfire on them at some point, I believ the PDAs have cameras both sides so RM could turn them on and check the photo of the idea card against a mug shot of the person scanning it
