I don't know if I'm being a bit thick here but if we use a "bench" to sort our duties into order then how does that create more space in the office what with our existing fittings being vertical, if it was simply a bench then surely the footprint of our existing frames would be too small anyway. Or are we supposed to take it in turns, use the floor, go out in the yard in summer and use the van bonnet or what?

Straddle the bog with the lid down.
Use the cistern as your bench.

how the heck does a 'frameless office' work?

Have they now got the technology/robots to sort our rounds into correctly ordered bundles?
The technology can probably be made to do that, broadly, except for packets.

However it would rely on everyone's walk sequence being 100% correct in Route Manager, and of course it'd require you to do the walk in the same order every day (which I know some people do, but for varying reasons, some people sometimes do not). Even were the sequence in Route Manager correct, unless the base data (access links, principally), reflects reality, errors will creep in and multiply over time.

The actual idea - taken purely as an intellectual thing - is quite sensible. However it founders on the rocks of reality.

When the technology goes wrong - as it certainly will in ways both small and annoying and large and catastrophic - you'll be sunk. Also, for folk who don't know the walks very well, it'll be hugely slow.

It's the stupidest idea RM have yet conceived because it does not take into account RM's 'difficult' relationship with technology. As just one example the RM parcel tracking network's been down for days now. Days. If it happened for more than a few hours at Amazon, very senior staff would be getting their marching orders.
What happens when the mail turns up not sequenced, as it does now occasionally, you'll be well and truly stuck without a frae to sort it.

You'll be most likely expected to sort it out on your dinning room table, as you sense this is the start of the beginning of DO's being closed, if not, then why are RM trying to free up space in the DO's?

Possibly to merge offices, sell off buildings?
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

Frameless sorting being trialled and have been told all frames to be gone by february.
The office I know of have ALREADY had all their frames removed (wouldn't surprise me if the removed frames have been scrapped already)

From monday parcels will arrive walk sorted to our frames.
Nope, parcels don't get walk sorted in MCs, it's physically impossible and would take up way too much space on the lorries. The sorting of the parcels to walks will continue to happen in the DOs

The national workplan is for wave 2 to be walk sort only. Wave 1 will only end up being walk sorted if there's a major machine breakdown or there's more work than machine capacity and staffing levels allow

So we’ve had one persons on here, just the one, tell use they’re coming in to their DO imminently yet can’t offer any info of substance to all these outstanding questions?

For such a big change like this coming into any office there would be weeks of communication building up to it and you’d be having all sorts of Q&As and also training.

So if your DO is genuinely at that stage, please share the info? Also have you been told if it’s a trial of if that is the new way of working for your DO?

It's a trial in a small postcode sector of a bigger town office starting tomorrow. At least that's my understanding of the local one Marin has mentioned. SP contends it is already up and running in his neck of the woods. We are all awaiting news on Monday on how we proceed with this 'unagreed' trial. Does everyone in the office walk out? Do they take all morning to prep their deliveries and then have no time to take out any of it? Do they just get on with it and make the most of another RM cock up and deliver all the tracked and as much of the (mis)sorted mail as they want due to feeling bad seeing birthday cards and hospital letters sat in the bottom of the trays? Your guess is as good as mine. Stay tuned and watch this space.

For each MC, have RM chosen a DO within the geographical area covered by that MC as a trial office?

A few things sort of contradicting each other;

The first guy who said it was already in his office had said previously that they were asking for '' a few volunteers'' in the office and most had said no

His posts on THIS thread seem to be posted as if its fully implemented ( hours cut etc etc ) whereas previously he had said that only a few were willing to trial it and despite also adding that he has been told all the frames would be removed ''by February'' as if the trial has already concluded and has been deemed a success.

Nothing at all about how it is actually working in practice. A strange omission dont you think?

SpacePhoenix' version is the office he 'knows about' has had ALL the frames removed. Not some people being asked to trial it. Not ''by February'' but right now all the frames are gone.

Something doesnt add up.
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

The technology can probably be made to do that, broadly, except for packets.

-Not sure how the technology would read terrible handwriting.

-Not sure how well it would bundle different sized items. I like to put small parcels into the frame as long as they are small enough - I think it's easier than having them in a bag as they can easily be missed or awkward to get out a full bag.

-Not sure how it would also add in the door to doors.

but if they have the robots to do it correctly and it's not going to cost a fortune - then it makes sense. I just doubt that technology exists.

If bench merging came in across the country the company would be doomed as it’s one of the most stupid ideas they’ve ever had and doesn’t work….exactly like the last time they tried it.
