Basically you have a delivery bench (not the frame with all the delivery slots). Your initial mail comes sequenced (no missorts in there ),
and you have a little contraption that you lay the mail on and use it to filter in flats and the second walk sort etc that doesn't come sequenced. There was a video of it in (in)action on a thread a long time ago......

All sorts of discussion about missorts, poorly addressed mail, how you would deal with small packets, mail not sequenced in delivery order
because the A+ (or whatever it's called now) is not up to date, redirections, carrying a bundle of D2D'sas well as the mail bundle as you deliver on the street etc.
As others have said it was a complete non-starter! Who knows now!

It's a utopian idea that a company like ours is not equipped for. In an ideal world all mail would arrive 100% sequenced. You could take those mail trays straight out on a trolley with post it notes to mark where your parcels are. At the moment, the tray arrives, we throw the mail in, then pull it back out again, it's handled twice. As you say, too many variables to consider, not least the state of the missorts

So you would have to know the Walk like your back of your hand in its entirety so what happens when a Reserve is put on it once in a blue moon having to visualise in your head the walk and sort the mail accordingly. Then throw in where a New Build has been added in between them last being on the Walk as with most ideas upper management comes up with in theory great idea in practice unworkable

How big is this little contraption? Do you lay your whole delivery out on this bench?

Sorry to everyone for taking this thread of topic - but I've managed to watch the CWU videos again (not sure if it's allowed to upload them into a thread on this site) but to correct/clarify what I said originally (it was a while ago!):

The demonstrations showed the flats etc being put into the appropriate slots on the frames (so apparently a frame still exists, whether
that frame would have 'your delivery' labels on it permanently or can be used by multiple deliveries one after the other I don't know).

A block of sequenced ie 20 slots is selected directly from the perstop it comes in and placed onto the bottom half of the 'contraption'.

The flats from that same block of 20 slots from the frame are placed into the upper half of the 'contraption' then you flick through the sequenced
on the bottom half until you insert the first flat item at the appropriate point and repeat for each flat.

Once that block of 20 slots of your frame is done then that's a 'bundle'.
Then repeat. No doubt the size of the block you would select would change dependant on the amount of mail you get that day.

The 'contraption' is not very big, it looks like the size of two computer tablets, landscape orientated on top of each other.

Ta for the clarification, sounds a bit like the way we did it using pigeon holes on a walk fitting years ago albeit with a contraption and a lot more mail

Following on from our '1-1's (actually groups of 10, or not at all in my case), we've been told that the latest finish time for our DO under the new system will be 3.11pm. Which is actually earlier than we currently finish on a couple of days. And yet they're still talking about no last letters later than 5pm on a national basis? So presumably, the proposed finish times are varying quite widely in different DOs?
