Mail centre closures

I was talking to a driver from our mail centre today and the latest rumour is that Royal Mail want to close at least five mail centres as part of their latest "plan". If this happened do we think the existing mail centres would be expected to take up the slack or would this mean new bigger mail centres covering a larger area?

This could also be a convenient excuse for later starts on delivery due to the mail centres being further away from the delivery offices

It's possible that it could end up actually being a lot more than 5 if RM were to close and merge groups of MCs into larger new builds. They've done it a few times in the past, think South Midlands and Medwey MCs are examples of that

3 super hubs which have a machine that does 90k an hour, can run inward & outward together in tandem. 1st being Warrington that place is a mile and a half in circumference. PSMs are modular And dismantled easily. First-class mail. And maybe local inward collection.

If RM plan on keeping the super hubs, then they may as well rip out all the PSMs from MCs. How the hell do they think that there'll be enough traffic to justify having PSMs in MCs when most of the workload that the PSMs would run will be going to the superhubs?

Think the plan is to not have any MC's whatsoever

For that to happen the the hubs will also need to be able to sort mech and manual letters, flats, SDs and any packets that can't be sorted by machine. Also they'd have to sequence everything

Where is the THIRD HUB Being Built

But now looks like it is not happening as the cost of land is so expensive is what we are hearing

I would think Medway Mail Centre is a candidate for closure with its inept and at times bullying higher management.
