Re: Members update
Correct me if I’m wrong but where all the managers not at a meeting yesterday with ST in which he told them that letters are going to 5 days a week, annualised hours etc all happening does this not go against the current negotiations?

This is the one proposal that I really don't understand.Martin Walsh wrote: ↑07 Nov 2022, 18:32Woody we are mostly in agreement on the issues you have highlighted.
There better not be annualised hours. No chance of us agreeing this but there will be seasonal variations to ensure productivity does not drop.
The company must know how unpopular the later starts and finishes are. So add on some form of annualised hours on the top of this by forcing posties to work even more hours in winter and less in summer makes this even more unpopular.
If the work isn't as busy during the summer and they need posties to be more productive well that was what lapsing was designed to do.
Quite honestly I thought that the annualised hours would be the first to drop in negotiations as they just don't make sense.
Then again its only taken ST months to arrive at the conclusion that Sunday working perhaps should be voluntary.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

The company need to put out some boogey man proposals to 'take off the table' in negotiations in order to get the proposals they know they have a chance of getting throughpostslippete wrote: ↑08 Nov 2022, 21:47This is the one proposal that I really don't understand.Martin Walsh wrote: ↑07 Nov 2022, 18:32Woody we are mostly in agreement on the issues you have highlighted.

The compulsory redundancy threat done its job too - put the focus onto that
The union will likely get a no compulsory redundancy agreement and champion it as a win even though that was put ''on the table'' late in the game
Meanwhile RM will still be happy at;
Not having to give us a payrise near inflation whilst still adding 'strings' for what they do pay ( ye know....what the dispute was originally about )
Later starts
Sick pay/stages changed
30 min seasonal variation
Legacy allowances gone
New entrants on lesser conditions
And the conditions primed for GLS being sold to/by VESA and the USO being cut
We will be told this is as good as we are going to get and should be happy that for current employees;
A more severe form of Annualised hours is kyboshed
Commit to deliver is kyboshed
Compulsory Sundays are kyboshed
Compulsory redundancies are kyboshed
We were only getting 2% before
Those are the boogie men proposals that will secure RM the crap above it. Those were the proposals designed to scare us into accepting a crap deal.
Will it work?
Lets hope not but weve seen this movie before.

Re: Members update
Seasonal variations sounds code for Annualised hours, no matter how it is dressed up?
Can we have some clarity please?

Re: Members update
They quite clearly are consultations the problem is you would have to actually know it was a 1 to 1 to refuse when it is disguised as though it's a work place huddle until out came the paperwork at the end. Tend to think all the changes that Royal Mail want that doesn't affect Walks will be enforced by surreptitious actions which Union Reps will just accept because as long as their full withdrawn hours are honoured then that's all that really matters to most. Yes I am Cynical but well I have no faith in the Union and every action that Royal Mail has done so far has us heading to a break up of the company and basically Processing will be outsourced to GLS because they are more efficient ie Pay Less and have nothing but a Casualised work force

Re: Members update
Remember whatever deal is eventually hammered out it will be put to the membership as a vote. Wether to accept it, or not.
So we are not totally powerless. If enough people think it's a crap deal (and vote not to accept) then they'll have to go back into the room and try again.

....although RM are under no obligation to reopen negotiations. If they have a negotiators deal and the membership turf it out by ballot the business may well say that's your (CWU) issue to sort as "we" can't afford any more. Given the last few months I'm not ruling anything in or out.Dorset Plodder wrote: ↑09 Nov 2022, 16:51Remember whatever deal is eventually hammered out it will be put to the membership as a vote. Re: Members update
Either the "commit to deliver" or the later starts alone will probably be enough to get the deal thrown out. Any deal will get voted in or out by delivery staff as they outnumber all other functions combined by at least 2:1, probably more likely now 3:1 with the massive increase in the usage of casuals/agency in MCsfreespeech wrote: ↑09 Nov 2022, 18:45....although RM are under no obligation to reopen negotiations. Re: Members update
UK law says no one has to work a Sunday you just have to give the company 3 months written notice, that saying if they make your shift on a Sunday they are not obliged to pay you,so technically if you want to take a hit on a days pay you will never work a Sunday, but they can't sack you for refusing to work it,not sure how this works for new starters who have signed a contract to work them.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑06 Nov 2022, 15:52There never was going to be compulsory Sundays. There better not be compulsory Sundays
You can't enforce Sunday working, it has to be agreed.

Re: Members update
Well I was told yesterday that they are going to start a bench merging trial in one of our units on Monday and in two other units in UK under something called frameless office.Martin Walsh wrote: ↑07 Nov 2022, 18:32Woody we are mostly in agreement on the issues you have highlighted.
There better not be annualised hours. No chance of us agreeing this but there will be seasonal variations to ensure productivity does not drop.
There better not be flexi-hours. No chance of no finishing times and this.
There better not be bench merging. It does not work we run trials and it could not work. I think Royal Mail want to have the IPS and prep done in mail centres and again this is unacceptable.
There better not be commit to deliver. Royal Mail have run a trial without union involvement on and this is clearly targeted at reducing CSP Hours. This is a new proposal and we need to understand what they are actually saying and the impact from this.
There better not be performance "management". I am a no to any individual performance standard and have always been.
Never mind acceptable solutions, these are unacceptable in any form.

Re: Members update
Wonder if that'll mean us having to go back to sequencing wave 2, if it does it'll mean later dispatch times, especially if they insist on plan 1 being fully run firstzipmeister wrote: ↑10 Nov 2022, 07:00Well I was told yesterday that they are going to start a bench merging trial in one of our units on Monday and in two other units in UK under something called frameless office.

Re: Members update
Don't bother wondering, anyone who works in delivery will tell you it's possibly the shittest ill thought out idea ever, it's doomed to failure, it will take absolutely ages longer to prep a duty without a frame.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑10 Nov 2022, 07:11Wonder if that'll mean us having to go back to sequencing wave 2, if it does it'll mean later dispatch times, especially if they insist on plan 1 being fully run firstzipmeister wrote: ↑10 Nov 2022, 07:00Well I was told yesterday that they are going to start a bench merging trial in one of our units on Monday and in two other units in UK under something called frameless office.
