Re: Union updates
Any VESA aquisition of GLS will make any current proposed agreement with terms and conditiions null and void?
We all know that is a done deal and an open secret.
Why no response for the CWU with this possibility and possible impact with any agreement?

Re: Union updates
Now the Government has removed any objection, GLS sale is a done deal. That happens Royal Mail cannot meet the conditions of the USO. They have made public statements losing a million a day in addition to the GLS cross subsidy now at an end. The Government will take Royal Mail back into state hands as they will never allow it to go Bankrupt. The USO repealed and shareholders compensated the same as Railtrack. They will then break Royal Mail up like British Gas and Transco or BT and Openreach..

Re: Union updates
Wonder how they'll do it if RM does get broken up. Maybe deliveries as one company and logistics and MCs as another company. Don't know if PF would get merged back into RM first or whether it would also be split off, and if it was, would they take any SD or Tracked contracts with them

Re: Union updates
That is exactly how they will do it, all seperate companies with their own unique legal personality.
Deliveries
Mail Centres
VOC
Amazon is a prime example (Excuse the pun)
They do not recruit delivery drivers, they use driver agencies on their behalf. They are employed by that driver agency licensed to use the Amazon name.
The USO will be repealed along with the guarantees of special delivery service
All contracts have a get out clause agreed with both parties in the terms and conditions by serving notice

Re: Union updates
Parcelforce and GLS will be floated off as a separate business. The rump Royal Mail will be a different company and as won't be profitable as it is. So radical changes will have to take place over the next 5 years.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑07 Nov 2022, 08:57Wonder how they'll do it if RM does get broken up. There could be centralised distribution and a franchised model for collection and delivery contracts, something like that.

Re: Union updates
Franchising under contract is a possibility, But profit forcasts will need to be identified first. As the business is allegedly losing a million a day, who would invest in that franchise?
Amazon might tapping into the local delivery networks as hubs already established

Re: Union updates
For the VOCs/arctic driving they might contract Eddie Stobbart or another similar company to handle all the trunking work between RDCs and between RDCs and MCs
If that were to happen then I wonder if SDs would end up getting axed or merged into the Tracked product and the Tracked product being made available to absolutely everyone, through Post Offices, etc

Re: Union updates
That is my thinking. The Tracked replacing the shrinking domestic letter market with premium products.

Re: Union updates
Yes redlan, 100% agree that this is what's mostly likely and it won't be a good thing either as the Tories won't let the fact that a company is now back to being nationalised to stop the race to the bottom.redlen wrote: ↑07 Nov 2022, 08:25Now the Government has removed any objection, GLS sale is a done deal. Re: Union updates
This is all guesswork and the timescale involved even if it did come to pass would be in months and years.redlen wrote: ↑07 Nov 2022, 08:25Now the Government has removed any objection, GLS sale is a done deal. So I'll ask again.
Why would any VESA aquisition of GLS make any current proposed agreement with terms and conditiions null and void?
It's pretty much nailed on that VESA has a line of communication to the Royal Mail board so if a takeover would void any agreement made why would they even bother to negotiate?

Re: Union updates
Not guesswork, simple economics if a company is losing a million a day and cannot sustain its fiduciary duties and statutory obligations.
And not talking years either
Fire and Rehire as an example is a modern phenomenon on inferior terms if the economic sustainablility of the business is called into questions. Again a million a day loss justifies that.
You have P&O, TESCO and British Gas engineers as a source of reference
The government would keep Royal Mail going under state ownership until it could be broken up and sold off, on inferior terms and conditions to make it attractive with investors

AGREE 100 % we should strike until Thompson is ousted otherwise we are fooked in January !POSTPERSON50 wrote: ↑06 Nov 2022, 18:07Driving a hard bargain won't be enough. With Thompson in place, they'll shaft us big style in January when Christmas is done.Clappedoutpostie wrote: ↑06 Nov 2022, 17:58How else would u suggest they talk? Ultimately it’s not upto the union what the payrise/deal is but I would suggest they will drive the hardest bargain they can.Dexydog wrote: ↑06 Nov 2022, 17:22The union's job is to be honest in the first place.
They've talked tough, and suddenly a no strings ballot on pay has turned into us discussing how much shafting we're prepared to take for what ultimately isn't going to be an inflation based pay rise.
It's a disgrace.
Has nobody recognised that Royal Mail are happy to tear up every agreement we will ever have without notice?

Re: Union updates
Strikes are the last resort pressing the nuclear button. Use the Acronym M.A.D. seems appropriate.
Personally think Simon Thompson is encouraging the strikes for his own nefarious aganda, hence playing hardball with negotiations

Re: Union updates
Of course it's just guesswork.
If it wasn't a man with your skills would be making millions in the city.
Some of it is likely, some of it is possible, some of it is very improbable.
None of it is impossible.
None of it is definite.
None of it will void any two year agreement that the CWU and Royal Mail may or may not agree in the next week.
