Union updates

Everytime I read a union update regarding the current dispute I get a feeling we are being primed for yet another shafting.

The union will get us the best deal they possibly can but that will obviously involve some concessions on our side , if you think the union can fight off every Royal Mail attack you are living in cuckoo land.Everyone one of us will have our own red lines , mine is working Sundays, I will leave the job if that’s inforced.

My guess is that Saturdays and Sundays in all offices (DOs, MCs, RDCs) will eventually end up being done on a rota so that everyone will have to do them at some point. A lot will depend on what demand there is for Sunday delivery

Now they’re turning it into a 9 til 5 job, even the agency staff they’ve got working have been saying no to working later due to childcare issues

The customers don’t want their parcels and mail later, I know I get complaints when I work overtime and people tell me they’ve waited in all day

If we’re working later are they going to shorten our rounds to take into account the school traffic? Does anyone know?

Also what about all the small businesses that shut at 4pm are they going to rearrange the routes so we can get there before they shut?

I’m prepared to work Sunday but only if I get the Saturday off and I’d want plenty of notice

It’s all about the conditions for me, I’d settle for a 0% pay rise if conditions stay the same

Hopefully there'll be no shortage of volunteers for Sunday working. I'm like a broken record here but I won't be working them no matter how they dress it up.

Going to be hard to convince volunteers to work an 8 hour shift on a Sunday for a flat rate, I’m afraid it’s gonna be all in, minimum of 1 a month

In the mid 90's I started on 6 days (everyone worked 6 days), 40 hours. 5:00 til 11:40.

2nd delivery took me half an hour at most. Was always done by 11:00.

Very little in the way of magazines or small parcels. You were given a week to deliver what became 'mailsort' items.

We are edging towards an 11 am start now.

The joy of the job was the early mornings, done by dinnertime, day to myself.

It was never a chore to me, it is now.

That’s not the unions fault, their job is to reduce the level of shafting.

That'll be a successful outcome of this dispute as so far RM don't seem to have moved an inch from wanting double stuff!

Easy, all of your income goes on rent/mortgage, water, gas, electric, council tax, school uniform. Leaving you enough to buy 20 tins of beans and 5 loaves of bread.

or if RM axed some of the allowances, which for some would effectively be a pay cut, not a pay rise
