so basically the union have had us striking for nothing, losing pay and stress all for royal mail to shaft us over! great! we can all pull out our union fees if this is revision after revision constant resigns every year ,getting shafted everyday, redundancy pay next to nothing! what is the point, thought we were going win cwu! , as usual gets to busiest point of the year the cwu trust me wont strike! all mouth and no action, a deal will be struck before the next strike dates! and a crap one at that feartys!,epic fail

Declining workloads

There are declining workloads. We should be busy by this time of year, but we aren’t. Mail was ridiculously low volume today in our office and we aren’t alone.

We had a revision that wasn’t a balls up. And yeah it is a great place to work. One of the best performing offices in the country. We got lucky as our DOM was winding down to retirement when our revision was being planned so didn’t bow to his superiors and now we (for the moment) have decent achievable rounds.

That said, mail is definitely declining. Hardly any packets today and some of our loops were just one bundle. People are obviously feeling the pinch and ordering less unnecessary items. I can’t see that changing for the next two years either as energy bills continue to rise and everything else.

We don't have to agree to anything.....if RM say that is it and the CWU recommend acceptance and the membership vote it down I wouldn't expect RM to increase it. That will be a very dark place.

Is it me or do you think Simon has something in mind for us and he's leading our union bosses up the garden path,as for re-introducing overtime because he knows he's f****d up ,the backlog from just 1 week of no overtime is massive,for me personally he has messed with our lives i will not work 1 hour of overtime as long as he's in charge,i wonder how many will be chomping at the bit to help Simon keep his job.

More likely somethings triggering him having his wrists slapped and told to get in the negotiating room and agree a reasonable deal, I personally feel if he was just leading the CWU up the garden path then Rickie would still be leading the talks.

I think it’s important that we let the next ten days take place given that we still have the strikes up our sleeves.

This should be seen as a positive step and welcomed.

It’s a sad day though that I fully expect the CEO of the entire company to have a glass of wine and make a snidey dig on social media later on.

People will, if they enhance the redundancy terms to say £30,000 for someone who's done over 25 years and water down some of the strings attached people will vote for a 6% pay rise over 2 years and a £500 bung if the union recommends it.

In another couple of years, the circus will start all over again.

Who would vote for 3% per year for 2 years and £500 when inflation is looking to top 20% in total for those 2 years?

Is a £500 carrot really enough to convince people?

You only have to convince half the people +1 and you've got a majority, all a lot of people can see are £ signs.

I hope it isn't but this smells and reads like a sell out with the CWU saying it's the best we can get and RM saying it's the best we will offer. Then they all go down the pub.

If there is no better pay offer and CWU recommend a deal based on slight variations to the latest one , then the paid staff of the CWU better start looking for jobs because the CWU WILL CEASE TO EXIST.

royal mail should do the decent thing, not had much redundancies for about 5 years, give guys that want out there last chance, give them their 2 years pay !

Offer it up to everyone with 25-30 years service

The talks are now intense, so there will be intense talks as previous talks weren't intense enough or at all, all very tense.

Usual tactics, some tenuous 'common ground' has been reached through intense talks. No resolution, but at least we have both agreed the talks to be intense.

Let's call off the strikes as a sign of goodwill.

Oh look, we've all worked our bollocks off over Christmas and now we're being shafted good and proper.

Except for once, the CWU have kept the strikes for 24/25th and 30th/1st in place…
