Same here. I’m nearly 60 and already got my pension after38 years. No good for the younger ones though.

Yep and me and thousands of others I’m guessing, the future will be agency and part timers on less money that’s all they care about, more money for shareholders and start splitting the company

Several offices are having a high staff turnover already citing poor wages and stress..

It's not cutting hours you need, it's adding more hours in as offices clearly can't cope with gaps in staffing.

The last time I seen anything like was during DRAS dispute 1988 "Difficult to Recruit Area Supplement", which was introduced to counter high staff turnover in the South East as wages were too low to be able to afford housing which were going up a lot and jobs locally were offering a better rate of pay.

Now we're in a similar position except not many jobs were offering a really good rate of pay, so they must be leaving for less stressful jobs.

I think Islay office is a prime example of what you've described and reflects the wider company malaise.

Im surprised Royal Mail have never used the continental shift pattern 4 on 3 off 7 days a week,you could have part timers on the 3 days and full timers on the 4 days with longer days .The shift patterns now just don't work in a modern business the days of 6 till 2 are over.

I dont buy the modernisation angle 20 years ago if you went into a post office before noon and posted something first class it was guaranteed by to arrive 12 noon the following day and in many cases by 7.30 am the following morning so quicker than the model being punted now.

In the 80s & 90s before the huge increase in letter traffic from 2000 to 2008 over 250,000 were employed at Royal Mail delivering similar volumes and all got paid.

If you went to school in the late 70's early 80's teachers would regularly tell you that in the future we would be working 3 day weeks due to technological advance which would make our lives better much like R2D2 in Star Wars that's what modernisation is not a rush to accumulation by financial terrorism.

So aye if we do get an agreement then I'm sure shift patterns,productivity,business plans will work their way into CWU leaders heads but its a bag of shite at the end of the day in my opinion.
