The following Motion was not heard at National Conference this year. Please answer the following question as a view to support our member as his branch has failed to condemn this threat publicly:
SECTION 1A: POLICY
SUNDAY 3rd June 2007 ( 9.20-10-20 )
CATEGORY A, 6.
That this Conference agrees and condemns without equivocation the life threat to a member of the CWU N.Ireand No.1 Branch at his home address from a paramilitary organisation.
Conference reaffirms its policy decisions in support of the N.Ireland peace process and the significant contribution made by the trade union movement in both parts of Ireland over many years .
Further in view of the latest despicable developments with our CWU member, Conference instructs the General Secretary to re-engage with all the democratic political parties in N.Ireland, in conjunction with the Secretary of State for N.Ireland with a view to;
(a) Re-affirming the Trades Union Movement as a voice for positive change within the peace process and attempt to achieve a thorough condemnation from all political parties to this threat against any CWU member in N.Ireland.
(b) Attempt to achieve that this threat is verifiably removed from our member and his family.
(c) Attempt to achieve a commitment of principles from the political parties that all paramilitary groupings should disband and decommission armaments and that all diverse groups should use exclusively peaceful and democratic means as a vehicle to achieve their political goals .
(d) Conduct in conjunction with the TUC an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding these threats and publish a report from any such investigation to the membership by December 2007.

Welcome Renegade - fully agree with what you posted on this board and lets hope they adopt it.
In my view the Postmen/Postwomen in NI were the only people from both sides of the divide that showed everyone else how it could and should be done. Kudos to all of you.
