Either the union made a big mistake or rolling functional strikes are impossible
It's more like a third option.
They're too risky.
It's possible the legality of the functional strikes may have held up in court but the risk of going to court and losing the entire ballot was too high.
The mistake if any was in not starting with the functional strikes back in August/September.
Introducing them at this point was too late in the game to risk the whole ballot over.
My personal opinion was and still is this dispute is going to be won using customer leaverage, not creating a backlog because we just don't have the volumes anymore and Royal Mail have too many options to deal with that so I was never really a fan of functional strikes anyway but that's just my opinion.

if you read it. he is saying APART from cyber Monday all the OTHER strikes were FUNCTIONAL. cyber Monday is on the 28th Noveber. one of our strike days.
been in plenty of jobs, and this cwu union is the weakest union ive paid for to be a member hands down to represent its workers, inept,lack of ideas, they would rather laugh and slag off the royal mail while we are all losing money ,than actually do something to help its workers, what a waste of time this is, terms and conditions gone, later starts coming in for sure, ,

Ask yourselfs this if the strikes were not working why have Royal Mail reverted to using the anti trade union laws to stop our strikes.
These are not anti trade union laws. They are simply trade union laws, and we have paid union officials whose job should be to know the trade union laws chapter and verse and make sure that we stay within them. Face facts. Due to someone's incompetence the union f****d up and have no confidence that they can avoid f***ing up in the same way going forward so have now abandoned functional strikes.
RM are quite happy with one day strikes. It does little to hurt their customers. Time to abandon the one day strikes. Call off everything in November but tell members to put aside a day and a half's pay per week and plan for everyone out together in the first 2 weeks of December. The prospect of that will cause customers to desert RM in their droves.
Make no mistake, even the threat of strike action over the Christmas period will be enough for royal mails big customers to move their business else where.
If rolling strikes are to risky then the cwu did the right thing pulling them. We can't waste our biggest impact, the strikes over Christmas. We got one shot at this.

Cwu didnt pull rolling strikes rm frightened the life out of them by threatening court action.
