Ban on using your cars on delivery
I heard a rumour that the union are bringing in a clause to stop everyone using their cars on delivery within the next couple of months. Has anyone else heard about this or is it pie in the sky??

Re: Ban on using your cars on delivery
No but I have heard rumours that Royal Mail is heading in that direction for when they get these all singing all dancing carts. Will be strange both Royal Mail and the CWU having the same plan (but for different reasons).Johnny_Rad wrote:I heard a rumour that the union are bringing in a clause to stop everyone using their cars on delivery within the next couple of months. Yep, we had one trialled in our office, there are very heavy as you say and have a max capacity of 70kg. Heard of one whose battery failed, they had to use a lorry with a tail gate to get it back to the office. (Well, I'm pretty sure I heard it, it may just be a RM Urban Legend)k66yla wrote:Apparently the electric carts weigh 150kg, if you are out on delivery and the battery fails there is no way you can push them.

Well I saw one at our office and it was also showcased with a new van that is needed to load the bloody thing onto it. I can t wait, all these cut backs and then thousands upon thousand of pounds spent on vans getting the carts out and guess what.................there was nowhere for anyone to sit.pinstripe wrote:Yep, we had one trialled in our office, there are very heavy as you say and have a max capacity of 70kg. I know what you mean, everything they touch turns to crap (the reverse Midas touch), they spend a fortune on things that don't work or that make things more difficult and then they blame us postiesDirtyHarry wrote:I don't know why Royal Fail just don't change the company name to balls-up.![]()

Just to clear up the cars on delivery question, the word from our area rep is that because of Pegasus, RM will ban all cars on delivery as good old Pegasus is supposed to balance out walks to a more even playing field, thus using cars may hinder or advantage someone doing a delivery.
The CWU does not & never will support the use of cars on delivery.
The high capacity trolleys will only be rolled out on certain deliveries, there are a number of other means of carrying mail which are being trialled including mopeds & a bike with trailer than can carry 9 pouch bags (no further need for van drivers to ferry pouches out then). Each delivery will be analized to find the best means of delivering mail dependant on Distance from office, terrain, number of safe drop points & number of delivery points.
The futures Shite

TNT Orange
Oh and just to add a point walk sequenced mail, if the flats are sequenced as well as letters it takes 45mins to throw up a 500 drop round with the current mail volumes.
Our area rep sore it demonstrated last Sept.
Scary times ahead

mopeds have been taken out of the equasion due to h & s issues and a lot of the equipment that has been touted around by royal fail also has saftey issues so just hold your breath as i belive they are just trying to frighten everyone with yet more bullshi* and most of the outdated and useless equipment will never be seen on any delivery
