1. I think we are possibly too understaffed to worry about many job losses.
2. They already announced the 10,000 job losses. I wouldn't be surprised if most of that 10,000 has essentially already gone through them not replacing staff that leave.
If you joined Royal Mail in the past year maybe you are vulnerable to losing your job, but that's standard. I've been in that situation before at a different company. You just go on your way and find another job. Most people that came into the job in the past year at our depot have already left as they were just passing through anyway, on their way to a better job.
Simon Thompson has said they want letters Monday to Friday and 7 days parcels. The cwu used to come out with this dropping letters on a Tuesday whenever Monday to Friday was mentioned. It was rubbish then and is now. I deliver to nearly 200 firm's Monday to Friday, 6 on Saturday and I don't deliver In city centre. Do you think all the businesses would accept 4 days of deliveries without uproar? Dropping letters on any other day than Saturday was never going to happen despite cwu reps pushing that narrative whenever dropping a day was mentioned
I can't see us going down to less than 5 days a week for letters. If we went to 4 days we'd essentially be delivering 2 days worth of mail twice a week and 2 days mail can't be delivered in our times. Yes they'd probably want us to job and finish - but that will kill a lot of us due to exhaustion.
Businesses wouldn't be happy with it either and I doubt the government would be forthcoming. A mail service keeps business going. Important documents need to be delivered in good time. NHS letters, poo samples...need to be delivered in good time. In a national emergency you need a reliable and regular service.
Should be no problem dropping Saturday letters. There are trays of mail piling up on some duties from last Thursday and managers are just failing duties for days including town centre walks. If redundancies come we might be delivering Christmas cards in March.
