The issue is not about causing disruption to the business after the strike, it's the fact the mail hasn't been picked up from customers on the day of the strike. This is what applies pressure to get a resolution.

I think it's good members are doing overtime, the money is better off in their pockets, because else that work would just as easily be covered by agency staff.

We had a similar conversation in our office

I’m on a part time contract (30hours) so I’ve always done overtime to make up my wage to an amount I can live off

I’ve averaged 20hours overtime a week for the past 3 years

20 hours pay a week, every week until???? Well that is just too much to lose

If those full timers feel that strongly about not doing overtime maybe they could stick their hands in their pockets and make it a level playing field on how much we’re all sacrificing

But all them full timers were once part time as well

And please note anyone who signed a contract to work part time is just that part time

What are all the part time staff going to do if RM get their way and overtime gets swallowed up in annualised hours

In one day the original poster has done, based on full time hours (roughly) 13.5 hours-in one day. over half as much as a part timer on a 25 hour a week contract.

If he is working sat then he will be contravening the 11hr rest period between shifts.

Yes, i was formerly of the opinion that RM staff shouldnt really do OT on the so called "recovery days" but now i think it is better that RM staff take it rather than bring agency in.

ST is also saving £1m a day by not paying the wages of 115,000 RM staff on each strike day.

If people can afford to withdraw labour and not do any overtime then fair-play. But for many of us in what is a low paid job this is simply not an option. It’s more important that strike days are observed after that let members make up their own minds. To me the biggest problem is strike breakers and agencies not people doing o/t.

The person concerned was asked to withdraw their labour to support a strike - this is what they have done, and what happens before or after that is no business whatsoever of anyone other than the person concerned and their manager.

Whoever the low life was who called them such a name deserves to be conduct coded, and if they had done this to me, I would be going down that route, calling someone a scab when they HAVE participated in a strike is TOTALLY unacceptable. It is people like that low life who will enable RM to win this dispute, they let EVERY ONE of their colleagues down.

As I said yesterday - always worrying and bitching about what someone else is doing, it's a toxic pandemic in RM, if only you could get a vaccine for it.
