Re: Working after strike days
We were told by our area union rep today that there literally millions of packets/parcels stuck in the system waiting to be sorted. Whilst we clearing the mail at the DO's there seems plenty of mail not reaching the DO's.

Re: Working after strike days
It’s not about a “backlog”.
RM lose contracts through strikes being carried out & the threat of further strike action - Simple as that.
Customers will not use Royal Mail if we are Striking, or they will do what they can to avoid it, especially in the busy period coming up.
Customers switching their business to competitors is hugely damaging for the business. Possibly permanently damaging.

Re: Working after strike days
If it means people can afford to strike for as long as we need to then I don't care if they're working their day off or doing some overtime. The most important thing is to not cross the picket lines.

Re: Working after strike days
Absolutely and I'm disappointed that there's a new thread on here regarding someone who says they were called a scab for working overtime to recoup money despite striking, when the f**k is it going to sink inWolf91 wrote: ↑21 Oct 2022, 18:26It’s not about a “backlog”.

Re: Working after strike days
Yeah totally agree.
Yes doing no overtime will hurt them more but rightly or wrongly I know allot of colleagues who need overtime to pay the bills and sort out their family.
Asking them to strike, as well as give up all their docket is quite strong especially in the cost of living crisis.
Basic wage is not enough anymore. That's why we are out so let them earn.
Bigger picture...
It's still causing massive delays and backlog.
And the rolling strikes will be carnage.
Otherwise these people would have to leave or cross the picket line, and we don't want that.

Kinda on the flip side, as long as RM are getting everything covered on OT, they won't have any need to either increase the hours of PT or move them to FT

Re: Working after strike days
People keep mentioning a national overtime ban? They can't get enough people to take it up at ours!
"Just take it out and see how you go......."

Re: Working after strike days
I read this a lot on here. Aren’t the 2 things connected? Surely the bigger the backlog or the longer it’s taking for a parcel to reach its destination the more chance of a customer switching to a different carrier?Wolf91 wrote: ↑21 Oct 2022, 18:26It’s not about a “backlog”.

Re: Working after strike days
If the union wanted to go down this route they should have voted for a work to rule/ overtime ban , they didn’t so it’s a non story as far as I’m concerned and I never do overtime.Zicomurphy wrote: ↑21 Oct 2022, 20:11I read this a lot on here. Re: Working after strike days
a workmate asked an area rep why they won't call an overtime ban, he said we have too many members already spending more than they earn so they won't go down that road, he also said to fill your pockets with any overtime availablechickenwittle wrote: ↑21 Oct 2022, 20:48If the union wanted to go down this route they should have voted for a work to rule/ overtime ban , they didn’t so it’s a non story as far as I’m concerned and I never do overtime.Zicomurphy wrote: ↑21 Oct 2022, 20:11I read this a lot on here. i have always said an overtime ban would hit them more but i agree it's hard to police, especially if some go to other offices once all out on delivery
not even sure we could even have a legal postal ballot now we have already started disruption to the postal service, a court would throw it out in an instant if rm challenged it no doubt, especially if it was a close call of 60-40

Turkeys and xmas, the reason i don't stand on the picket line with this lot,the days of real men mates and colleagues who stand with you through thick and thin is over, this lot would push you off a cliff for a penny.

Re: Working after strike days
It’s better to have Royal Mail in a perceived “state of striking” for several weeks or even months on end rather than one week all out then people go back to work.
Simple as that.
