When the sorting machines come into action!!
There will be a mass exodus of part time delivery staff. Unless part time staff have the ability to find another part time job. Who will be able to afford to live on 20 hours per week? It may suite quite a few people but most will leave.

I was given an illustration (with sample frame section and bundled mail) of the sequenced mail prep at the "roadshow" that visited us this week. Basically the mail that can be machine sequenced will arrive in blocks covering 20 addresses on a frame ( one panel) and in theory this constitutes 90 - 95% of your mail. the only mail thrown into your walk frame will be the non machinable mail which when complete is taken out and placed into the sequenced bundles in order of delivery.Wild Cat wrote:The machine trials only saved 10 minutes off prep so your jobs safe for now.
Given what nowadays constitutes non machinable items and the fact that on a heavy day I have several areas where half a dozen consecutive domestic addresses can total 70+ items, I imagine that any time saved will be spent on adjusting bundles to a safe handling size. Most of us on a regular walk are used to breaking our bundles at convenient spots on the walk and no doubt it will take a little time to reconcile the systems so that we can fly through it as expected (lol).
I would also suggest that the percentage of machinable mail in areas of high direct mailing is rather lower than RM imagines and the amount of catalogues and magazines we now handle along with odd promotional shaped material will mean that the expected efficiency improvements will be negligible.
We wish to serve - but we will not be servile
