Dick, w****r, stupid - is that what passes for mature debate in the CWU now?

This isn't a CWU website and these people posting are not posting on behalf of the union so I'm a bit disappointed in your rather cheap shot.

As for a mature debate, why the f**k would you open your web browser and expect a mature debate?

There's no debate in posting the same s**t over and over again and expecting what exactly?

Chris has an alternative opinion which is fair enough but he just posts the same thing over and over again, to what end? A vain hope that he'll wear people down or just a wind up? Is that a mature debate?

He's not alone of course, there are those on both sides who do it but let's not throw our hands up in horror at a few insults as if we were deep in the middle of the Derrida and Searle dispute.

For proper mature dialogue without the threats, insults and bluster.

* They should stop winding people and inciting...
** October 20 strike is not going to achieve much in the scheme of things; just more wages lost, businesses lost and more intransigence.
Every post of yours is the same Chris. I don’t need to go any further than that :thumbup
That is consistency for you...

The CWU are gradually moving to my position anyways... We want a resolution - some more money whilst giving up on some of our terms; for the good of the business and our jobs. It is as simple as that!

I am not interested in trading insult or unnecessarily focussing on Simon or the shareholders; I live in the real world. RM is the employer - and that says it all.

Many us were thinking of other jobs after the announcement but we got stuck very quickly; and realised that the grass is not that greener on the other side.

The CWU stalled talking for months but they had the gal to tell us it was RM that did not want to discuss pay and terms together. The outputs on social media is frankly embarrassing. The constant attack on Simon and senior management is not helpful; the other side have not been that personal, have they?

If Simon wished to destroy the CWU - can you blame him; the CWU also want him gone, but do we think he will replaced by a push-over.

Cross the picket line if you feel that strongly but don’t expect others to buckle to the bully’s like you though.
Do you even understand what bullying is? Who is asking others to cross the picket line? It is my opinion on the matter - mine and mine alone. You have yours, I have mine.

The place and s too much of an echo chamber and in fact, a place for actual bullies that name call or dont want to hear any other opinions.

The CWU will soon call off the strikes anyway - I hope you will be alright when they do?

So the CWU have not actually given an official notice of the 19-days rolling strikes to Royal Mail:
What is wrong in calling for a 'Ceasefire' (a pause), of the very next strike on 20th of October following the 'profit warning and announcement of redundancies?

The CWU can show goodwill and intent; and present a good optics rather the slanging match from mostly the Union...

Lastly, what is their game not giving RM official notice when the whole thing has been announced and members are preparing and some looking forward to the strikes and the crippling of the company?

I would have thought that would be obvious to almost everyone even you, the vast majority of the membership don't want them to due to Simon's behaviour over the last few months. They simply don't trust him.

The CWU is as near as possible a democracy and your voice and opinion is a tiny almost irrelevant minority.

That's what's wrong with it.

At least I am not alone! There are more people that disagree with the loud voices of this echo chamber or in our offices but they are too afraid or not confident to voice their descent; time is on our side.

By the way, you don't call a one-party state a true democracy. Those dictators almost always get over 90% votes in their elections; that is why they call them a Regime. The CWU is a monopoly and they have stopped representing our full interest - they are very much concerned about their influence, survival and pockets right now.

Sums it up. The Union has clearly stopped listening to, or representing the opinions and interests of, much of its membership. Two weeks ago Dave Ward finally said he'd let us all know last week what the Union's "alternative vision" of the company actually entailed. Still yet to hear what that is. Instead, we get more again today on "innovative new products" with "social value" to "leverage the competitive advantage of the USO". What are these, and how will the make money? It's now fairly clear that is all hollow and unsubstantiated waffle.

If that alternative (but illusory) vision of the company is the position from which the Union is trying to negotiate, then the Union has now become a bigger problem for the workforce than management. It will ultimately ensure that these "talks" are fruitless and render the industrial action pointless. They should be trying to negotiate the best possible deal from the core demands that the company wants. They need to be willing to cede ground on the company's priorities, while securing the best possible pay deal and protecting all the other T&Cs that the company aren't quite so concerned about attacking. Instead, the Union is playing a game of chicken that it's about to lose, and wasting the strong mandate they once had from the membership in order to chase their pipe dream fantasies of dictating to the company how the company will actually run (which happens to be antiquated and economically unsustainable) - and if that doesn't work, begging labour to renationalize them after they've destroyed the commercial viability of the company, which simply will never happen.

The Union needs to start living in the real world or else any talk of pay rises will instead be replaced with fending off even more job losses.

Chris j is right, it's always been about the unions survival and being recognised or de-recognised,,the union have always been the same though only telling you what you want to hear, and still lie to your face.
Just like the next 16 strike dates from November 2nd,,,so when was they going to tell us that they haven't even given notice to RM on them yet,,I don't like the union lying to my face or to all of its members,,they need to be more upfront,,and don't even get me started about why terry met with Vesa 3 times,, behind Dave's back :evil/mad

Call off the strikes?

If anything the union should be giving notice of continuing rolling strikes throughout December. Make it clear to parcel customers that they should be switching to alternative delivery companies because Royal Mail management aren't going to be able to deliver for them this Christmas.

If the CEO isn't willing to listen then we must shout even louder.

The CWU only have to give 2 weeks legal notice so the first functional notice does not need to be served on the 19th October.

Chris why at this stage would the CWU stand down action when Royal Mail are taking executive action ?

From 21 October any new recruits will be coming in on 20% less money.

All parcelforce recruits will be owner drivers.

In addition we have yesterday’s announcement. Until we get the fundamentals right in the talks that there will no owner drivers in Royal Mail , commitment around no compulsory redundancies, that there will be no separate parcel network set up by the board based on worse terms and conditions and scope for negotiations all other the issues then there is no reason why we would even consider suspending a strike.

You don’t surrender the very reason why your in the talks before major concessions.

Remember the Postal Executive have still to announce a strike program from 3 December.

We are up for a deal but an agreement will not be made based on the current proposals of Royal Mail.

However there will have to be agreements around some of the obvious dynamics , coming off planes , the hub automation only having the capacity to sort to circa 350 delivery offices , the ability to deliver reliable on a Sunday. However what will not be agreed is a standard start time of 08:00 , that owner drivers will deliver the larger parcels and compulsory Sunday working.

In every dispute there comes a time when there needs to be a period of calm to finalise an agreement. However at present we are not at that moment and the executive action of the company makes it unlikely at the moment.

Therefore any withdrawal of action without the company making concessions would be the wrong tactic.
