CWU

The announcement from Royal Mail Group today is nothing more than their latest misjudged scare tactic.
They genuinely believe they can threaten you into submission.
Below is a statement we have issued to the media.

We CWU will meet Royal Mail Group today because we continue to act in good faith.
We will also bring you a fuller update from the unions leadership later as well.
#StandByYourPost

CWU General Secretary Dave Ward said: “The announcement is the result of gross mismanagement and a failed business agenda of ending daily deliveries, a wholesale levelling-down of the terms, pay and conditions of postal workers, and turning Royal Mail into a gig economy style parcel courier.
“What the company should be doing is abandoning its asset-stripping strategy and building the future based on utilising the competitive edge it already has in its deliveries to 32 million addresses across the country.
“The CWU is calling for an urgent meeting with the Board and will put forward an alternative business plan at that meeting.
“This announcement is holding postal workers to ransom for taking legal industrial action against a business approach that is not in the interests of workers, customers or the future of Royal Mail. This is no way to build a company

Announce all the December strikes now,hit back against what they are doing. This is no way to run a business, Simon Thompson must go the sooner the better…….

If rm were to get 10,000 out the door
I’m quite sure they just can’t employ 10,000 to cover that on worse t@c or pay
It must be against employment law

They can just wait it out a bit.
Or change the job title
Or wait on the government making another piece of anti-industrial action legislation. They love a bit of that.

Perhaps we’d be in better shape as a going concern if the government or the regulator stepped in to demand that their shareholder cash handouts were used to fulfil the USO. You know, like they were forced to PROMISE to fulfil as a term of privatisation?

ok.... So 'Royal Mail are losing £1million a day', but claim we are heading for a £350million loss for the year.....and they also claim the strikes have cost the company £70million....

If I do some maths.... that means we are not losing £1million a day and RM are speaking out of their _______

Either way, if they claim we are losing even £150million..... what are management doing? they should resign. How have we gone from around a £750million profit to a £350million loss?

It makes no sense. I am delivering as much as I was last year.

Don't confuse group with RM......RM made a profit of £416m for 21/22 and have announced a £219m loss April to September. Revenue down 10.5%, parcels down 16%. Not justifying it, just giving the detail.

Probably back down to pre-COVID figures? Why didn't the BoD realise this would happen, instead they want on a spending spree, £400m in dividends, 100's of new electric vans, £m's on super parcel hubs (ST even uploaded a video of a new(?) RM train yesterday) and even all new uniforms. It's like a lottery winner spending all their winnings then finding they've nothing left.

“The CWU is calling for an urgent meeting with the Board and will put forward an alternative business plan at that meeting."

Perhaps the CWU could share its plans with everyone so people can see if they make good business sense? The last I heard was that the CWU plans would increase costs for little to no increase in revenue, but it's all just speculation if we don't know what they actually are!

Mr Ward has long been an advocate of letter writing competitions and postal workers looking after the old and vulnerable.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Exactly this. It's become very difficult to support further industrial action when we have no idea what vision of the company we are striking to achieve. The Union's communications are making it fairly apparent that there is no alternative business plan, but just buzz words and interminable waffle.

How many delivery offices are there? What would it work out as an average? It might work to move pt staff to ft and not replace the outgoing staff in some places but leaving offices permanently short of staff and using more agency than necessary would be damaging and costly.
