The CWU communicated months ago that you won’t resolve the dispute without getting a decent pay agreement as well an acceptable agreement on change.

Are we really saying that we are going to get a settlement on pay without discussing change , especially at this point in a dispute ?

Equally we are currently in October , our next pay round is due in April are we going to not want to consider a 2 year agreement if that suited us ? Or are we going to have another dispute on pay next April ?

Remember we have reballot on the Pay Ballot in by the middle of January and on the change Ballot by the middle of February.

When we were originally demanded a no strings pay deal , we were in March / April. There are so many challenges as we speak now which need an acceptable settlement including who staffs the 346 offices is it owner drivers or is OPGs.

The change programme Royal Mail have announced previously and those new announcements many which come in about owner drivers and a two tier workforce come in on 21st October 2022.

We are not going to resolve this dispute not discussing pay and change together.

Why?
We didn't ask for change, Royal Mail introduced change into the equation so they could manipulate our pay demand into their change agenda.

Most of the other unions who've negotiated pay increases for their members lately have managed it without eroding their terms and conditions and let's be brutally honest here that's exactly what we mean by "change", continually managing the decline of our terms and conditions.

To be honest we're sick of "deals of the century" and the unit reps are sick of explaining away capitulation.

Why didn't you stand firm?
Why didn't you stick to the mandate given to you by the members to negotiate a separate pay deal? Why even throw that out there if you didn't think you had the balls to pull it off?

Is it the threat to full release Martin, was that a bridge too far?

goal posts moved yet AGAIN. the rep at ours even said Terry had 'backed himself into a corner' just by even mentioning that one. seems he was right.

So we have abandoned any opposition to the hubs?
When did that happen?
s**t news for those offices that are going to lose a lot of traffic and see either part time jobs or unmanageable delivery spans.

which also begs the question Martin, why have 2 separate ballots then? we had one for pay only, then one for change. why have 2 if you's even thought for one minute we couldn't achieve this? it beggars belief quite frankly. the cracks are starting to show.

It has multiple personality disorder.

It will be interesting to see how any potential deal plays out because none of Royal Mail's proposed changes improve our terms and conditions so who will be sacrificed to get this deal and who will be protected.

This was said to be the starting position from Martin back in February )

The unions policy for the April Pay Rise is the following :

1. A pay rise of inflation or above.

2. 35 hour gross working week without loss to pay meaning the final 2 hours off the working week.

3. An increase in overtime rates.

4. A commitment to more 3,4 day working.

Of course no pay increase comes without strings and that is going to be the negotiation!
