Re: Scan in/out
It’s blatantly the thin edge of a wedge (well actually the wedge has long started) that ends in everyone being controlled by the PDA during your entire work time, with pay linked to hours actually worked, a banking hours system, automatic warnings issued for underperformance, even automatic warnings for absences via your PDA “profile” (record) and work assigned to you on the day once you log in via a centralised AI controlled management algorithm.
I’m not saying it’ll be tomorrow but the idea it is not possible or not massively beneficial in terms of maximising profits is, well just wrong.

In the MC there were all kinds of fiddles and job & finish / shoot off early on your last shift before annual leave etc going on until SISO was installed,
They tried to carry on with it for a while until 3 people got busted leaving early and the bookroom had a warning that adjusting people’s clock in times on the computer system was “Fraud”
Now all that goes on is some people bang out 2 mins early to get a flyer from the carpark, this generates an investigatory email from central control at sheffield which has to be explained.
People have been handed printouts of their clock history and shown how it looks when you leave 2 mins early every day for 3 months!
It’s not “linked to pay” yet but it will be soon, we have had it just over a year now.

Just as an off topic aside there is no genuine H&S obligation or reasoning to know who's in the building, it's a bit of a myth. The company will simply use the H&S line, we need to know who is / isn't in the building in case of fire etc.
As any decent firefighter will tell you lists get people killed, all the people on your list may well be accounted for but it doesn't mean there aren't still 5 people burning to death in the building.
The fire brigade always assume there may be someone left inside a burning building until they have checked themselves providing it is possible to enter the building.
Your list may only have some small use in identifying a body through a process of elimination.

It would be quite something if this SISO thing does bring about an end to ghosting, as theres a few in my office who are almost on a daily basis being paid till 9/10 even 11pm and are home by 2/3pm. Im not sure how i feel about this as for them to be doing this week in week out is actually insanely hard work and 99% of other posties couldnt do it BUT you could also argue its unfair and someone who happens to be physically “gifted” shouldn’t be able to earn so much more than others.Surreypostie wrote: ↑04 Oct 2022, 18:01I think one thing SISO will do is stop all the ghosting, people want overtime but what they really mean is they want paying to do work over and obove their assigned duty and to be paid for it regardless of finishing time. I don't do overtime usually and one reason for that is I don't want to be walking the streets until 5 or 6 o'clock and I certainly won't be doing any when we start and finish later. I think later starts and finishes are a certainty. Annulaised hours for me is a no no.
Also theres one guy who i know takes the van home everyday, and doesnt even take his PDA etc back to the office after delivery. Its sort of insane because he lives miles away so as well as the obscene hours of overtime he rakes up, he’s also paying no fuel costs and suffering no wear and tear to his car.

RM must be the only major company that doesn't have a swipe in swipe out procedure. We all have ID cards and I for one have no issue with it at all. People who have easy duties, come in early and dont take breaks certainly will. At least we could have some hard evidence of the easy duties so revisions could be done in some kind of order starting with the minority who work part time hours for full time pay while the majority struggle to complete.

We do exactly that, manager can put the reason into the system to explain the early finish

Trialling has been completed at national level at multiple sites, several sites have had siso for over a year nowDexydog wrote: ↑04 Oct 2022, 15:52The point I was making is the union rep didn't speak out to reassure against the obvious ulterior motive.
Was it not supposed to be trialled first under agreements made between RM and the union?
If so, surely he should have stated this is the case, the trials have been completed and there's nothing to worry about.
We either have agreements or we don't.
The following day the union was expecting everyone to go out on strike.
Seems to me they're toothless to stop anything RM want to bring in.
If that's the case, fine- we roll over and let it happen.
If not, he should be telling us its not been fully agreed and put in a disagreement.
Just saying it how it is, otherwise what's the point in striking- perhaps the union need to start being more honest about what our chances are, not just with this but with all the other things they may just bring in and we can't stop.

If he lives miles from the DO, there might be a DO nearer to his house that he could enquire about transferring tomjd24 wrote: ↑04 Oct 2022, 21:22Also theres one guy who i know takes the van home everyday, and doesnt even take his PDA etc back to the office after delivery. One thing I’ve noticed is if you are what they call a “big overtime player” than with that comes an extra layer of protection, or in other words the managers won’t do you for anything unless they absolutely have to.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑05 Oct 2022, 07:02If he lives miles from the DO, there might be a DO nearer to his house that he could enquire about transferring tomjd24 wrote: ↑04 Oct 2022, 21:22Also theres one guy who i know takes the van home everyday, and doesnt even take his PDA etc back to the office after delivery. How does this work in regard to the Working Time Directive ? The docket sheet would show them finishing at 23:00 and therefore shouldn't be in work the following day until 10:00.mjd24 wrote: ↑04 Oct 2022, 21:22It would be quite something if this SISO thing does bring about an end to ghosting, as theres a few in my office who are almost on a daily basis being paid till 9/10 even 11pm and are home by 2/3pm. If you have some sort of accurate record (either electronically or paper) of how many are in the building, and that same number are checked off outside after evacuation then what's the problem?Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑04 Oct 2022, 19:59, all the people on your list may well be accounted for but it doesn't mean there aren't still 5 people burning to death in the building.
The Fire Brigade aren't going to enter a burning building just to double check that the people count adds up.
Only in RM (it seems) do these very basic things seem to cause problems.

I think one reason they haven’t brought in clocking machines before is because they know the work wouldn’t get covered. The docket kings would refuse to do it if they couldn’t make 3 or 4 hours. Annualised and banking hours will cease the necessity for those deals.

I agree . If your local CWU branch is the same as mine then it's very weak . Management can do whatever they want in our place without any resistants .
