Postman murder reward up to £100k

Police investigating a postman's murder have increased a reward for information to £100,000 on the fifth anniversary of his death.

Father-of-one Paul Savage, aged 30, died on 4 February 2003 after being attacked by two men while on his round in Mold, Flintshire.

North Wales Police are offering a £100,000 reward, which includes £25,000 originally offered by the Royal Mail.

Police later said they knew why he was killed, but would not elaborate.

Mr Savage, originally from Sale in Greater Manchester, was on his round when he was attacked, and died in Wrexham Maelor Hospital from head injuries.

He had been struck on the head several times with a wooden baton and was found lying in a pool of blood on the driveway of the home of Flintshire councillor Ray Dodd.

In 2005, on the second anniversary of his death, police said they knew the motive behind the murder.

At the time, Det Ch Insp Paul Loftus described the murder as a "stain on the community" and added: "I believe this inquiry is moving towards a successful conclusion."

"Repercussions"

On Monday, senior investigating officer Det Ch Insp Wayne Jones said he believed people in and around Mold had potentially useful evidence.

He said: "Up to now, these people have remained tight-lipped, out of misguided loyalty, or fear of repercussions.

"The attack was cowardly, and Paul Savage was a defenceless victim. These murderers need to be brought to justice for the sake of Paul's family, and also for the community of Mold.

"We have received a great deal of assistance, but we are renewing our appeal again to anyone who may have the key information that will bring the offenders to justice."

He added: "There is still time for people to come forward & tell us the truth, about those who carried out the brutal murder.

"The investigation has not and will not close until it is resolved.

"We can offer support and protection to anyone who has information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of Paul Savage's killers."

In a statement, the force said any information would be handled in strict confidence, adding: "North Wales Police in partnership with the Royal Mail have today increased the reward to £100,000, in a bid to bring the 30-year-old postman's murderers to justice."
