How Can This End?
With S.Thomson just bypassing the Union negotiations to bring in the conditions/working practices he wants, and the Membership continuing to strike in protest, how can this ever end if talks are not being had?
Changes will continue to be imposed, striking continues. I just cannot see a way forward.

Re: How Can This End?
I think STs banking on us either breaking the 19 days strike due to cost of living or getting the strike stopped by people not crossing pickets when they should (due to rolling strikes).
If it gets completed, and then further Christmas strikes called, the pressure might just build too much and he’ll be gone.
Alternatively if unite called a strike I think it’d be over for him too, and quickly.

Re: How Can This End?
Only the hardcore union members will continue to be able to afford to strike after this month. Anyone with kids, a mortgage etc will not be wanting to sacrifice those things especially if a cold winter and christmas period happens.
Also after 12 weeks ( around 18th nov) RM can legally start dismissing people who strike.
ST is just waiting and will plough on regardless.

You can claim unfair dismissal at an employment tribunal if you’re dismissed for taking industrial action at any time within the 12 weeks after the action began.
After 12 weeks, you can be dismissed if you take industrial action and your employer has tried to settle the dispute. For example, your employer may bring in advisers from Acas to help find a solution.

Well the answers should come fairly soon.
Dave Ward is going to unveil his plans for saving the USO.
Rees-Mogg is going to decide whether VESA can increase their shareholding to over 25% - presumably as a prelude to a takeover.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

The strikes after that will be on the change ballot
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

12 weeks "If your employer has attempted to settle the strike".
What exactly counts as an attempt to settle?
Is this why Slithering Simon brought up the ACAS thing?

Re: How Can This End?
I can afford to strike one day a week indefinitely until the day I die and I do zero overtime. I am getting sick and tired of the politics and I am getting pissed off with the fact that he simply says no to talks and the union saying we aren't budging, something has to give. My dad did 7 weeks and went back with pretty much what they went out with and skint. I don't know the answer but I think we will break before he does. He has nothing to lose, he only has a 3 year contract, he simply moves on to his next contract. He is a multi millionaire and doesn't need the money. As I said, I can afford and that is the word, I can AFFORD to strike one day a week indefinitely and it really has no detreimental affect on my life. I have no mortgage, no small children, I owe nobody anything, no debt whatsoever. How many of you out there can AFFORD to strike indefinitely? That is how it will end.

Re: How Can This End?
Everyone's circumstances are different. New mortgage rates are gonna be hurting alot of people, not to mention all the other price increases. I don't plan on missing any strike dates, still wouldn't judge any1 who did.
& Simon should go, though anyone expecting Royal Mail keep the same way of working is being naive. Dave ward is playing hard ball which is right for us but he knows as every other intelligent person knows a business must adapt in order to stay in the lead.
Not saying give way to everything Simon is proposing, just be realistic. The days of finishing 2 hour's early & going home are coming to a end lol

Re: How Can This End?
They had a plan to starve us out and that’s the plan they are sticking to. I was hopeful when the Bazooka of rolling strikes was waved about it might lead to grown up talks but it looks like it might actually need to be fired.
Still time yet.

Re: How Can This End?
This may be a problem for Him. The Union can argue that His attempts to resolve things has been pretty pathetic where as they have continually made offers to settle things unlike Him.Splappy_McSplap wrote: ↑04 Oct 2022, 15:2012 weeks "If your employer has attempted to settle the strike".
