LTB 160/23 – B R T & G AGREEMENT – PARAGRAPH 6.4 JWG
No: 160/23
21st June 2023
Dear Colleague
ROYAL MAIL GROUP: BRT&G AGREEMENT PARAGRAPH 6.4 – JOINT WORKING GROUP
Branches and Representatives will recall the terms of paragraph 6.4 of the national Business Recovery, Transformation and Growth (BRT&G) Agreement and in particular the joint commitment in clauses 6.4.1 and 6.4.2 to establish a Joint Working Group (JWG) to look at sick absence levels, the causes of sick absence, cost of sick absence, the migration from one agreement to another, welcome back meetings and attendance standards.
In an attempt to move the aforementioned joint commitments ahead and in order to take the initiative, at a recent meeting the Postal Executive endorsed a proposed ‘Terms of Reference’ for the JWG. This has been sent to Royal Mail for their consideration.
It is now important the ‘Terms of Reference’ are quickly agreed and a mutually convenient date is set for an initial meeting and a further series of JWG meetings. In advance of this we will be requesting comprehensive ‘sick absence’ data from RMG to ensure the terms of the agreement are delivered.
Branches and representatives will appreciate the JWG will involve a comprehensive period of activity and there is much to be discussed. The CWU JWG members led by Carl Maden, will undertake this work with a positive mind-set and we have impressed upon RMG the need to mirror this approach.
Further updates will be provided in due course.
Any enquiries concerning the content of this LTB should be addressed to Carl Maden PTCS Department.
Yours sincerely
Andy Furey Carl Maden
Acting Deputy General Secretary (Postal) Assistant Secretary

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

It's just another way to turnover staff but the new ones run to the hills as soon as they see this going on!

"Joint Working Group" eh?
So RM say "jump", CWU say "how high, Sir?"
Job done, another groundbreaking agreement about crushing the most vulnerable part of the workforce is reached.

The size of walks is the main reason that sickness is so high, 4 hours plus non stop in what ever weather. Maybe an idea if they at least looked at making the walks shorter, personally I would prefer to loose 2 hours a day pay, for 2 hours less out walking, less aches and pains, plus less chance of going sick with sore knees hips feet and back pain. Or made it more easier to do job share, it would give those that wanted it more time to recover.

Ah the good old joint working group. Nice little meetings with tea and biscuits for the lazy feckless overpaid union bods whilst we are pummelled into the ground. Few weeks of talks and they will conclude Royal Mail were correct in the first place. Honestly can’t wait for my ballot this week, big cross in the no box then i can withdraw my financial support to this ridiculous corrupt “union”.

When I started in the late 1980's we had a First and Second delivery with a meal break/relife in between it could be done and should be done with our union starting it!seaside wrote: ↑21 Jun 2023, 16:51The size of walks is the main reason that sickness is so high, 4 hours plus non stop in what ever weather. So if this could be brought in, it would cost royal mail nothing, and in my opinion would bring down sick absence levels. Would be nice to see the union trying to get this looked at.seaside wrote: ↑21 Jun 2023, 16:51The size of walks is the main reason that sickness is so high, 4 hours plus non stop in what ever weather. Plenty of lovely union release time though to get told what to do.
Whilst the workers are out in the dark on a Saturday.
As if they will ever reverse the sick policy if voted through in the sell out. The reality is they will be licking their lips for more.

Why not do 37 hours the union get an agreement so no one can do more than 3 hours without a meal relife of 40 minutes . At least you can go rest and eat sit down and go to the toilet. And do the rest of your hours!

Jeez if there's one job out there that your more prone to being off sick it's this one. It used to be just down to fatigue, wear & tear, nasty 24hr bugs because your out all hours in all weather but now they added to our mental fragility too with harassment, bullying and the overall deconstruction of our morale. So they've only themselves to blame for sick absence levels.

Yes that would be a better idea, but less of a chance of the union trying to get it or being able to get it.k979aaa wrote: ↑21 Jun 2023, 17:51Your basically just voting for part time hours.seaside wrote: ↑21 Jun 2023, 17:19So if this could be brought in, it would cost royal mail nothing, and in my opinion would bring down sick absence levels.
