There's not really anything to debate, it's either true or false

As long as I keep getting my money, along with my colleagues, I am beyond caring about the service.daveyeff wrote: ↑17 Aug 2023, 20:56Well tbf, I thought it was false from the start.they are NOT going to run out of money. Well time will tell.
Amazing that the day after it gets posted on here we hear it in our union briefing.
And it wasn't sensationalized, it was just in brief between more pressing matters. And it wasn't 'we are fighting this', it was simply emergency measures. Group meetings later.
I have no reason to doubt the rep, he's seen me right for long enough.
Believe it or not. I'm not asking to see his sources.
I don't know if it will happen, but I do believe it is being discussed. Either way parcels or mail, I'll still be on the Saturday rota.

You are wrong.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑17 Aug 2023, 20:39There are some facts around this.WHY would he come out with this pile of shite if its totally unfounded?
1. Royal Mail would like changes made to the USO around a 5 day service and some changes to the first class letter specification, we know that because they've come out and said it.
2. Royal Mail are probably in their worst overall financial position for a long time, we know that because of the recently released accounts.
3. Royal Mail have a particular cash flow problem at the moment, we know that because historically they always struggle with cash flow in the summer period, anyone who's been here for years knows this.
I suppose some reps/members may have put two and two together and came up with five, is it possible the business could go back to ofcom and the government to pressure for at least a temporary change just to test the water, of course they could but there's no official word that they have or plan to.
Are they about to unilaterally walk away from the USO completely and do the kind of things your rep says?
No, that's just bullshit.

Re: USO...lies.
I care about the business going bust. That is a different point entirely, and why I voted for the agreement, because I believe that it was the better option of ensuring stability and securing our jobs. That remains to be seen of course, and I’m interested in what this would mean for redundancies going forward, if these rumours are true.aiden01 wrote: ↑17 Aug 2023, 23:27Sad nobody cares anymore so if rm goes tits up will you care then.or just walk into another jobLouBarlow wrote: ↑17 Aug 2023, 21:22As long as I keep getting my money, along with my colleagues, I am beyond caring about the service.daveyeff wrote: ↑17 Aug 2023, 20:56Well tbf, I thought it was false from the start.they are NOT going to run out of money. My point was more, that I don’t care what mail is and isn’t delivered every day. I turn up when asked, do the job as asked, and go home. That is the extent of my worry when it comes to this job any more. The public obviously don’t care either, given their apathy in recent years, as the quality of service has deteriorated.

Re: USO...lies.
Look at the service levels of any big company these days they are all poor Royal Mail aren’t the exception. Letters will eventually go down to a 5 day service I don’t think there is anything we can do to stop that.
I mean if the job is 8 to 3:30 Monday to Friday how many wouldn’t mind that?

No as my original post says, I don’t know what it’ll mean for individuals or individual offices but you’ll not need as many staff on non letter delivery days.

Re: USO...lies.
I don't know whether it's true or not, but I find it hard to believe a rep would give such a briefing without authorisation .. We all know RM are fed up with the USO and would give anything to get rid. In my 35 years at RM, what often starts out as rumour more often than not is closer to the truth than people think - time will tell .. Incidentally, I asked our union rep about this and he had heard the same - temporary due to finances, but RM won't take the USO back.

So has management drawn up a rota for skeleton staff on Saturdays? I doubt it.
