The reason I assume is that the DTS and flats sorting systems are not digitally connected (someone in MC processing will know but it's all acronyms to me) at this time.
Separate systems. I expect that long term data from flat and packet sorting machines will eventually feed into the DTS data.

From what I've heard at the pilots. The DTS algorithm is still learning and randomly releases stuff even when there isn't a 1c with it. Apparently it needs 4-5 weeks of data before it trusts itself to only release the correct stuff when due. The result is that combined days are totally unplannnable so stuff in the mech tray which we are told must all be delivered looks suspiciously like it shouldn't and so managers are already taking decisions to cull the mail on the combined day and just focus on the tracked parcels again. The whole thing is chaotic at best and doesn't improve quality and costs the same if not more than what we are doing now.

If someone can find the imagined £300m cost saving, could they please get a job in the HS2 accounts department asap.

Can't be true.The DTS has been in place for well over a year and there hasn't and will not be ant changes to the algorithm.

It appears to have been rolled out in late 2021. Anecdotally, its effects have been noticeable since the second half of 2023.

So for absolute clarity: are MCs releasing mail in exactly the same way as before any pilots, with the exception of separating 1c from 2c?

No changes to the DTS. 1C and 2C (flats and manual letters) sorted into separate trays, white labels for 1C, white with green stripes labels for 2C. Both 1C and 2C trays to go onto the same yorks.

We've already got the new 2C labels so in effect the MC side has already gone live.
