How do unworkable revisions save the company any money anyhow?

Right now, I can sit here in my flat, order something off the web right after midnight.... And Royal Mail will deliver it three or four days later. Maybe.

Or order off Amazon and get it delivered next day, or ARGOS same day, etc, etc

Royal mail will automatically redeliver it next day and the next and the next for free and collect the return for free

Personally I will carry on quietly quitting, since the revision came in I’ve done less work. I no longer go the xtra mile for customers or Royal Mail.Finish time wether I’ve 50 houses to deliver or 500 doesn’t make a difference, I go home no matter what is left.
I can pinpoint the moment I realised we’d lost when the guy held up ‘Vote Yes’ poster behind Thompson at the select committee. Schoolboy and amateurish.
We had the upper hand, we had the mandate, we had the opportunity to hold Christmas as a bargaining tool to sort a deal. We let it slip, not because of the workforce but because our union didn’t go hard on the company. Getting likes on social media or stating I’m with the CWU in posts on Facebook was never going to win the dispute. All out would have concentrated minds on both sides.
Now like me, many have stopped paying their union subs. My rep was brilliant but he has been let down by the people at the top.

I doubt it. Royal Mail don’t care about the work been done especially letters. Theses revision have basically nullified the strikes.

We also have local elections coming up so a legal challenge could also be a possibility.

It's clear that for whatever reason the talks have gone very quickly from getting an improved deal to saving the company and the jobs.

The financial mismanagement has come home to roost, which is ironic as our office is swamped with parcels daily.

Rumors abound that if no agreement is reached (doubtful now) then RM will liquidate the company ! this is what they have been after all the way methinks. Start up with a different name, you can either take a shitty contract or take redundancy ! Bring on the redundancy !

No chance a company like the Royal Mail would be liquidated, and if they somehow were you would get basic redundancy off the government no where near what was being offered by Royal Mail

Totally agree, once they (RM) lost the staff who aren’t ‘militant’ or ‘easy pickings’ they have lost any chance of units being cleared ever again. The only way out now is RM going down the tubes.

It’s an interesting point you make, I was only thinking this morning that our handful of strike breakers have either left or are so pissed off they are working to rule as well.

I don’t get why people wouldn’t ‘work to rule’?
I keep saying that I haven’t been a union member for nearly 20 years and I have pretty much always worked to rule (apart from the early days when it was a doddle).
Iv learnt the best way to deal with a manager is not with discussion or debate but simply by informing them of your opinion that you may not complete and would they prefer you leave it or bring it back. If they start questioning I just tell them I’ll call them at 11 or 12 when I’ll know more.

By not working to rule you are taking short cuts which has given the impression the duty can be done in quicker time and also stitches up the Rota man who may work to rule himself.

Don’t get into an argument with them. Don’t give them ammunition. Do your job to the best of your ability and if you don’t think you will complete you tell them before you go out, confirm it later when you are half way round your walk, and then bring it back if you have to.

The only other short cuts I can think of are coming in early for free, not doing the legally required vehicle checks and working through your lunch?

Don’t come to work looking for a fight. Do things by the book and they have little they can throw back at you, even if the union rep can’t or won’t help.

I say to some people in my office to ask a manager for the area managers email address or contact so you can get a second opinion on your concerns. That also usually works as a deterrent.

And I’m not digging at you by the way. Despite me being a filthy man who’s family are ashamed of me, mental health is important to me (for personal reasons) and I don’t want people to suffer because they are struggling at work.

Inform them before you go out (make sure you colleague is there as a witness), call them half way round your duty and do not engage in debate. State your intentions and crack on.

Nobody said anything about going under, they will run it under state control and the shareholders will need to be compensated the same as Rail Track

There is no deal, there was never a chance of a deal.The union was played, and did its best against an attack that was impossible to defend against This has all been about getting rid of the union and reducing the USO in an absolutely disgusting and cynical way. There was no need for any of this.Total greed and mismanagement. RIP Royal Mail.
