Re: Redundancies
Would they be able to bypass the seniority ranking when deciding voluntary redundancy? I was also thinking the same, that they would pick all of the cheaper staff to get rid of first, so it doesn't cost them as much.HTPostman wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 13:24My friend has just made a good point to me: he is intrigued how they’d select those for redundancy. Obviously first off you’d think they go for the older staff, but most will cost the most because they’ve been here the longer.
If the aim is to simply get rid of a chunk of people of people who are on current terms, surely it’s cheaper to make 5000 redundant who will get less than £10k each, than 5000 who will get £20k each but will likely retire soon anyway.
There’s also a bit about are you willing to relocate. Yes, offices might be told only say 5% can be selected, but if there’s flexibility with a neighbouring office wouldn’t be surprised to see a bigger percentage allowed from some offices.
Over to you, union.

Re: Redundancies
I’m not really sure what the laws are, what our agreements are (if they haven’t been torn up). The end game I think is simply replace staff with those on inferior contracts, and if they can do it cheaper they will.Ferrari5825 wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 13:35Would they be able to bypass the seniority ranking when deciding voluntary redundancy? Then again this is Royal Mail and when it comes to money there’s little logic.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

Re: Redundancies
It says it on the page where you do your calculations, and then stipulates the conditions regarding getting the £6k.Lawrencepa2014 wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 13:04So where did this 6k figure come from? I’ve been there 3.5 years and it’s saying I’m only entitled to 8 weeks pay. No mention of 6kPostmanphat42069 wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 12:48It's on and it works, but is based on how long you've been with the company. The £6000 is to get you to agree by the 27th of November.
Had it been a flat 9 months plus £6k I'd be gone, but they can get to F**k with 10 weeks wages![]()

Re: Redundancies
12k if I was 10 years older and done 10 more years service might have been tempting, but in another 6 months I'd earn what the redundancy would give me. Would definately need to have another job lined up if I were to take it.

Re: Redundancies
Personally I can’t stand the thought of doing this job for another 6 months. It’s horrendous now even before all of the changes being brought in.1560loopsayear wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 14:0712k if I was 10 years older and done 10 more years service might have been tempting, but in another 6 months I'd earn what the redundancy would give me. Ask your manager.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
